Volume and Apple Playlist

I am a proud owner of an RS250. My player is connected to a Luxman 509x amplifier. I find the volume too high in the RS250. The vu meters in the Rose are too far out. How can I lower that volume? Please report step by step. What is the best volume level?

My second question. On my iPhone the Apple Music playlist is completely in the Rose app, but when I use my iPad only a small part. How do I solve this?

Thank you in advance!

@TeunisN

  1. After checking the specifications of the Luxman 509x amplifier you are using, it appears that you need to set the preout level setting in RS250 to 200mV or higher. In general, it is recommended to set the output high on RS250 and adjust the volume on the amplifier. If you set the RS250 output high, the amplifier volume must be lowered significantly, making it difficult to make detailed adjustments.

  2. We do not currently have the same symptoms. Please capture the Apple Music playlist screen on your iPhone or iPad and show it to me. Please also let me know how many are in your iPhone and iPad playlists.

Thank you for your response. After a lot of searching I found those settings, but it doesn’t really work. I actually have no idea how to properly set up the device with the amplifier. There are simply too many options for a simple user like me. That really disappoints me. Is there no default setting?

When I play via the radio, the incoming volume is fine, but via Apple Music the LED meters go out and the sound is not okay.

I also have no problems with Apple playlists. When I click on a song from an album, it plays that song fine, but then a song from another playlist follows. Furthermore, you hear pauses between songs at a live concert. I selected the “happy” setting, but no change.

As I said, I am not happy with this device. Can you help me further?

@TeunisN

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

  1. I reviewed the specifications of the Luxman 509x amplifier and provided the appropriate settings. There are no set settings for connecting to the amplifier. It’s important that you test things out and find a good sound.
  2. The volume value is different for each streaming app and for each sound source. Adjust the equalizer on RS250.
    ※ Caution 1. Currently, EQ function is only applied for RS520, RS250, RS201. The EQ function can only be used when playing music, Tidal, Qobuz, Bugs, Apple Music and Radio. In the future, we plan to make this function available for video, BT, Airplay, and CD playback as well. (In Roon Ready mode, please use Roon’s Parametric EQ function.)
    ※ Caution 2. The EQ function is only applied when using Analog and Optical outputs. It does not apply to HDMI and USB DAC outputs.
    ※ Caution 3. The EQ function is not applied when playing DSD files in Native DSD or DOP Mode. To apply the EQ function to DSD files, please use DSD to PCM mode.

EQ is a Parametric Equalizer that allows you to arbitrarily set the frequency bands for amplification and attenuation, adjust the bandwidth of the Q factor for each frequency. There are 5 bands of frequency that can be set, each adjustable up to +/-10dB.
In the EQ screen, you can change the center frequency value and Q-factor for amplification and attenuation by selecting the settings

  1. Are you saying that when you select a song in the playlist and play it, it doesn’t play in order? You must select a playback option when playing a song from the playlist that you want to play. If you select and play only one song, only the selected song is saved in the queue, so when the selected song is finished, the next song is played in the queue rather than the song in the playlist. Please select a playback option from the playlist.When playing a song in an album in your folder, if you press and play a song, only the selected song is played in the queue. If you want to play all of the album’s songs, click the shape marked in red in the photo below and select the part you want to use.
    - Add to the end of the queue : All the songs in the album goes to the end of the queue
    - Empty the queue and add: All the songs in the queue is deleted and all the songs in the album is added
    - Add to a direct play : All the songs in the album goes to the top and playes directly
    - Add to play next: All the songs in the album is added below the current streaming music

Please check if the shuffle function is enabled on the song playback screen. When activated, the songs in the queue are played randomly.

Hopefully you sorted this out. I have the same amp and yes you do have to change your pre-out settings to 200mV or higher. I have found that 400mV seems to be a sweet spot for my listening. I have a 150b but the settings should still be the same.

@Carnel

What do you mean needs to be fixed?
Each amp used requires different pre-out settings. Then, set the setting value according to the input sensitivity of the amp. The exact value for the preout setting is not set. The correct answer is to find and set an appropriate value while using it in connection with the amp you are using.

I think there is some confusion. I wasn’t implying that is was an issue in the Rose device that needed to be fixed. I was simply offering that I have the same Luxman L-509X amp and that you were correct in terms of the preout level setting. I personally set mine slightly above the 180mV that Luxman stated and it corrected the volume fluctuations.
