Vu meter behavior and design

I know they are just a gimmick, I know not everybody uses them, and I know they are not a priority. But what we have doesn’t work right at all.

I am using SFP between my RS130/Rd160, streaming tidal and qobuz, so keep this in mind.

When using output gain, they stay towards the low side and barely move.
When using input gain on most songs, they stick to the max and don’t move at all.

Now, with the upcoming update ROSE OS 5.10.02, you mentioned
" Improved UI when VU Meter reaches maximum state."

I installed the early access update, and all the vu meters do is twitch when reaching maximum state; they don’t behave “naturally at all”.

This is quite disappointing.

You “invented” big screen streamers, but we can’t use vu meter mode because it’s very annoying.

We have not seen a new VU meter style/design since the RS201E launch, which was almost 6 years ago!

They behave so badly, and they are so laggy that they can’t be used. Thank god for the RD160 sound waves.

What I would like to see going forward ( I know I am not the only one )

  1. A larger VU meter scale so they don’t hit maximum state.
  2. Less lag, so they behave more naturally and realistically, like the RD160.
  3. More styles to choose from, such as sound waves and spectrum analyzers.

I am a big fan of you guys, with RA180/RD160/RS130.

Even made it to Munich to meet the team ( great guys by the way )

The sound is amazing and hard to beat. But I like to listen with my eyes as well.

Your design is unique, and if it sounds good, why can’t it look good as well?

But let me tell you it’s a hard swallow when you see what the competition is doing, “design-wise.”

Thank you.

Unfortunately, the meters have a life of their own and have nothing to do with sound intensity, it’s similar in the RSZ 151 and the same was in the RS 250. I’m not sure if the IT team at Rose is able to make them work properly.

@Daemoncrx

We would like to respond to your feedback regarding the requested improvements.

  1. As you mentioned, we have received reports from users about the VU meter staying fixed on the right side and not moving properly.
    According to users, the meter needle remains just below “100%” and does not move again until the output level is reduced.In addition, even when adjusting the volume (input gain/output gain) via the app or touchscreen, the movement range of the meter does not change at all, and the same behavior continues even after performing a factory reset.Based on this feedback, we reviewed the behavior of similar products from other manufacturers and applied a comparable approach. The VU meter logic has been adjusted so that when the same value is repeated more than twice, the meter needle will move accordingly.

  2. Regarding the slight delay in the VU meter response on ROSE streamers, we are aware of this and are gradually improving it through ongoing updates.

  3. As for features such as a spectrum analyzer, we believe immediate implementation is difficult at this time. However, we are considering adding such features in the future according to our internal roadmap.

According to ROSE, should UV be set to input or output signal in the settings?

The anomaly regarding the indicators has been present for years. Has anyone at Rose really noticed that the indicators usually move between 50-100%?

And I ask again: do you update the RCP app to include bold text? Or what’s in Rose One, when listening to a given song on a given album, so that it’s immediately visible, unlike in the previous, much better app?

@Cougar2025

We would like to respond to your questions.

  1. For the VU meter setting, we generally recommend using the Output reference.
    The output signal reflects the actual signal level being sent from the device, making it more suitable for most use cases.

  2. We are already aware internally of the issue where the indicator mainly moves within the 50–100% range.
    Improvements to this behavior are being gradually implemented through software updates.

  3. At this time, there are no plans to add a feature in the Rose Connect Premium app to visually highlight the currently playing track.

@ROSEHAN : I don’t understand, as my RCP (android) is correctly displaying it since the beginning !

Dude, you’re looking at it from the wrong perspective. We all mean that you open a CD, press start, and the moment a song starts playing, that yellow graph appears next to it.

We don’t understand why Rose wouldn’t implement this in a better-performing app, while this feature was introduced in the weak Rose One app.

? It’s no CD sonny… it’s only my Qobuz playlist !

@ROSEHAN : I’m waiting for YOUR qualified feedback…

It’s a shame you don’t plan to add this feature yet, because it’s a much better app than Rose One. And when will Rose One be up to date with the 21st century? Because on the Ara, it’s stuck in the last century. Unfortunately.
The indicator issue has been there for years, and you’re only now starting to fix it. It’s strange that no one at Rose One has noticed.
