VU meters not working when playing via Roon

The VU meters work fine, when playing CDs or playing the music files, that were ripped by the RS 250 to the internal SSD drive.

However when I use the RS 250 as my Roon end point, the meters show about -8dB constant level without any movement on both right and left channel.

In a former SW release everything worked fine together with Roon.

Could you please address this issue for the next software update? It would be great to see this feature back working.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards
Andreas

@agrstgt

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

We don’t have the same symptoms as you.
Please check a few things.

  1. Can you tell me what the Signal Path settings are in Roon?
  2. Even if you pause while playing music on Roon, doesn’t the VU stop at -8dB?
  3. Is this because the MAX value no longer rises from -8dB? Or is the VU meter stuck at -8dB?
  4. How are the RS250 → Settings → Audio Settings → VU Meter Reference option values set? (input or output)
  5. Is Software Volume Control or PreOut level Setting enabled?

Thank you

Hi and thanks for taking care so quickly :smiley:

To your questions:

  1. See attached file
  2. No matter if you pause, change tracks, the VU meters are frozen as soon and as long the connection to the roon server has been established.
  3. It shows constant value only
  4. VU meter reference is set to “input gain”
  5. I can change the volume within the software, so no fixed output level.

@agrstgt

When we checked, it seems that the Software Volume Control function of your Rose device is turned on.
In In/Out settings, check that the Vu meter does not move even if you turn off the Software volume control function from the gear icon on the output.

If the problem is resolved by turning off the Software Volume Control function, you must turn Software Volume Control Off when using it as an analog output.

I can confirm, that the VU meters work fine no matter if local playback or using the RS250 as a Roon endpoint when the software volume control is set to off.

However the software volume control = on is needed in order to be able to control the volume from a mobile device.

As it worked fine in a former release, I still categorize this as a bug and kindly ask for fixing this issue in one of the next releases.
