Hi
Cause wifi is a security sensitive part, I have the maximum number of charcters by RFC as a password.
It seems like my RS151 does only accept 32 characters
Is that a known issue?
Good thing my password is only 30 characters.
Iâm not sure if I fully understand your question correctly.
Do you mean that when you try to connect to Wi-Fi on your RS151, you can only enter up to 32 characters for the password?
How many characters do you need to enter when typing your Wi-Fi password?
I have requested the software team to allow the input of more characters.
The maximum number of characters for an RFC-compliant password is confirmed to be 63 characters.
We have updated the Wi-Fi password input length to allow 40 to 70 characters.
Please check and confirm.
Hello Rosehan
Many thanks for your fast feedback! I checked and yes, allowed where 40characters.
Information I forgot to give you: Iâm using Sys.Version 5.9 and FW.Version XMOS 5012
In which Version will the 70 characters be available, or shall/need to try the âearly-access-versionâ ?
Again thanks for that fast and good support!
My explanation was insufficient. This will be reflected in the next update.
The next update is scheduled to be released in January.
@rosehan Till now the characters are still limited to 40. Can you please give an update, when this feature will be corrected?
@earlski
As shown in the photo below, you can now enter more than 40 characters when inputting the Wi-Fi password.
Please let us know the current software version of your Rose device.

The requested feature has been implemented in Early Access (Ver 5.10.02).
You can verify it by switching to the Early Access version now, or it will be available in the next official release update.
Hi

As you can see, I have Rose OS 5.9.08 which is labeled as âcurrentâ.
If I would switch to the âearly accessâ version, as Rose_love told, but the system told me, that it would set the system to âfactory defaultâ.
I would like to support you, but as you know I have complex passwords and currently not enough time to do a initial configuration of my Rose.
So I will have to wait for the official release
Can you give me a date for that?
The official version update schedule has not been finalized yet, but we expect to release the update sometime in April or May.
Not sure why you would want a wi-fi password that long.
No seriously.
Think about the problems w a very long password.
Youâre better off w a shorter, easier to remember password that you change every 90 days.
Or more frequently if youâre paranoid.
8-15 characters including upper/lowercase numbers and some symbols where you have over 65 choices. (really its like 70 or more depending on the allowable special characters. )
But if you took 65^15 you would have 1.56e27 combinations. Even if the password was 8 characters and you could only use Alpha for the first character⌠(52*70^7) is 428Trillion combos. On something you could remember. And easy to type in or share. (Which is why you have a guest SSID and change the wi-fi every so often.)
@earlski mentioned that Wi-Fi is a security-sensitive part, so he set his password to the maximum number of characters allowed by the RFC.
For this reason, he uses a password longer than 40 characters.
Of course, using a shorter and easier-to-remember password and changing it every 90 days can also be a good approach.
However, since people have different preferences, I also respect @earlskiâs approach.
I understand that.
My point is that having those long keys have some drawbacks where you now have to cut and paste the password when setting up a device and the you need to store it somewhere. Then if you want to share it you have to send it to someone that usually means less than secure message.
So the issue too long a password could be actually less secure.
I agree that you should allow passwords up to the max length in the spec. (enforcing buffer size) However in practice, I think people should fight that urge to make very long passwords.
This is why having a shorter password works better as long as its long enoughâŚ
Your point is certainly valid.
However, since people have different preferences and approaches, we believe it would be best to allow a longer password input field and let each user decide how they want to set and use their own password.
Well you should be matching spec.
