Would You recommend the RS130?

That is, indeed, very bad PR. Failures like these remind me of another company that manufactured surround sound preamps that were notorious for the 12 volt triggers to fail. I owned 3 of them and 2 of them experienced some kind of failure witht the triggers. Needless to say, I wouldn’t buy anything from that particular company again.

The RS 130 sounds really nice with my setup. However, I can’t say how much better as I replaced my amplifier, pre-amp and streamer all in a 4-week period. If I experienced issues like @Gandalf has had, I would get it fixed and sell it or trade it in. The only thing I can say I wasn’t thrilled with was the app (like everyone else). I ended up buying a lifetime subscription to Roon so I haven’t used the app in the last few months now.

I use my streamer quite a bit as one month Roon’s stats showed that I had listed to it for 49 hours in a month! If mine ever experiences a failure, I’d get it fixed and probably get rid of it.

Anyone thinking that RS-130 “sounds,” really nice or otherwise, really deserves all the problems they get…

I finally got my RS130 optically connected through the RSA720 USB hub to my Dac, after several software updates to the usb hub, and the 130 bricked today. I am waiting to hear back from MoFi about returning it for repairs. I don’t have high hopes about speedy resolution given the nightmare in dealing with the RSA720 update issues.

Hoping for the best hear because there are few transports that allow full optical isolation.

Hi,
may I ask which dac you use (that you managed to connect optically to the RSA720)?

T+A Dac200. So optically connected RSA720 to RS130. DAC 200 is connected to RSA720 with a standard USB connection.

If you’re curious about the current status of the incident, the device is still pending spare parts or approval for replacement from ROSE. Quite remarkable, isn’t it?

I hope they get it resolved for you soon so you can decide if you’ll keep it or move on.

Anyone that thinks a streamer can’t possibly make a difference in SQ should exit this forum and go straight to https://www.toppingaudio.com/

Topping makes Roon-ready, big-screen streamers now?

Oh, wait, it’s just the 130 bagholders talking nonsense again.

Of course a streamer can make a difference in sound. If it is broken. Possibly by design. You can believe otherwise all you want. You can also believe in spontaneous human combustion.

I don’t really want to discuss other brands here which is a bit disrespectful to the hosts. I think the alternatives are well known. You’re absolutely right, a PM would better. After all this time the software problems don’t get solved they actually get worse. But the sound is still excellent and I have found ways to get stable video now. When it works it can be an amazing machine. But it terms of functionality it is a frustrating mess still. I have a faint hope still that one day an upgrade will appear and voila, everything will work…Isn’t that one of the famous definitions of insanity?
