Connection to an Anthem AVM90

I would like recommendations to connect the RS130 to an Anthem AVM90.

I would like both - high res audio and video sent to the AVM90. I desire the AVM90 to use its DAC’s for Audio and the video switching and logic to send the signals to my TV connected to it.

Does this work well using the HDMI cable (along with a setting of HDMI bypass). If this is an option, can one get the ‘best’ audio stream this way as well?

Thanks in advance,

@wwolfram

See the following. (@ROSEHAN please confirm the following post is correct.)

Pass through for HDMI is not in anyway related to HT Bypass. This is typically a feature of preamps and is related to 2 channel audio.

HT Bypass:
feature allows the audio signal from a Surround Receiver or Processor to pass through a separate stereo preamplifier without any signal modification . This is useful if you have a high-end two-channel system but want to watch video with surround sound on occasion.

HDMI Passthrough - Based on Rose documentation and comments this should allow a MCH file to pass through to your AV but it does not work that way.

I understand your post - I am hoping what you are saying is true (it would make me a happy puppy :grinning:).

I’ve read many variations as to what “HDMI Passthrough” is. Maybe we should ask @Khaodow - he owns an RS130 and has applied HT Bypass (see Is it worth it to add an RS130 & RD160 to an AVM 90 - #15 by Khaodow). @Khaodow may shed some light on what HDMI Passthrough is.

I’ve created many posts asking @ROSEHAN or @ROSELOA to elaborate whether there’s an HDMI bug or to detail what HDMI Passthrough really is.

Its been many months I’ve been asking. So I took a guess (re: HT Bypass). When one of the HiFi Rose forum members provide an answer, I’ll correct/delete my posts.

I have an RS 130 and have the HDMI pass-through turned on. I was hoping that an MKV file or FLAC file played from Rose to my OPPO 203 via HDMI would play in MCH. It does not.

To play MCH files here is what I do:
FLAC/WAV 4.0/5.0/5.1/7.1 files: roon core HDMI —> OPPO 203 HDMI In —> 7.1 Speakers
MKV Dolly TrueHD/Atmos (not yet supported by roon): USB Drive —> OPPO 203 → 7.1 Speakers

@joyofmvid I am sure that a roon core device costing a few hundred bucks would be a good input to your Anthem. Roon is free to try, here is my referral link —> https://roonlabs.com/r/zTzi9Xfwm0WqojJ4Vdf5VA

@joyofmvid the specific situation I was referring to is where the setting in the RA180 amp to “bypass power amp”. This enables me to use input 3 on the 180 when playing 5.2 movies or music. In this scenario, FL and FR are powered by 160 and centre and rears are powered by MCA525 via the AVM90.

The source(eg Apple TV) is connected to the AVM90 via HDMI. FL&FR go from AVM90 to RA180 via digital pre kit. All other channels go via XLR to MCA525.

Hope this helps!
