Display not compatible at daylight

Hello,

I have been the proud owner of an RD 160 in silver for a few days now.

However, there is one thing that really bothers me.

During the day, the display is not visible because it is simply too dark. You can’t read or see anything. It is just a silver surface until sunset.

Is there a solution for this?

Many thanks and best regards,

Andreas

Yes, there is a solution – replace it with a black one :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello,

I’m really surprised by the intelligent and helpful suggestions here.

I’d rather wait for a response from the professionals at Rose. Maybe there’s a sensible solution.

If not, I’d rather continue talking to myself—sometimes I just need an expert opinion!

Best regards

That’s right!

I can understand why you don’t like it!

Did you order the 160 online, or did you go to a local dealer?

If so, you should have noticed it.

Yes, I know, it’s always easy to be wise after the event.

Regarding my post:

It was meant to be funny.

There’s a saying:

“He who suffers the damage need not worry about ridicule.”

That’s what my post was about.

If I offended you with it, I’m sorry!

Apparently, people don’t understand fun anymore in today’s crazy world.

Hello,

I bought the 160 from a local dealer and I like the silver finish of the device. It just looks good.

That’s why I don’t want to exchange it, even though the dealer would certainly allow me to do so.

In my humble opinion, a display on a device must work in all configuration variants.

Do you see it differently?

I didn’t feel personally offended at all—everything’s fine.

On the other hand, I naturally prefer more relevant comments…

Have a great day!

Audiophile regards

:100: That’s what I meant (I agree with you).

And as I said, it would also bother me a lot if you could hardly see anything on the display during the day.

Logo:

Not the sun shining directly on the display through the windows.

You know what it’s like using cell phones, tablets, and laptops outside.

Even then, it’s hard to see anything.

No, why should you exchange the 160?

If you like silver, it’s fine, and it has nothing to do with the readability of the display.

Silly question:

Have you set the display brightness to max?

I think I read that the brightness can be adjusted using the buttons on the front or the dial.

I know, silly of me, and you know it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello,

Unfortunately, the brightness setting (dimming) only affects the switches and volume control, but not the actual display…

That is probably the real problem. Assuming that the display does not currently appear to be dimmable, a software update might help.

I am therefore very eager to hear back from Rose…

I hope…

Best regards

Now that you mention it, yes, questions like that have come up here in the forum too.

Wait until the Rose guys get back to you.

You’ll have an answer by Monday morning.

PS:

I know, I can’t wait either, but what can you do? :man_shrugging:t2:

Have a nice Sunday!

Hello,

Yes, I guess we’ll have to wait until Monday.

Waiting a few days is no problem for me. I don’t constantly adjust filters or sampling settings.

The most important thing for me, of course, is that the DAC does what it’s supposed to do. It works very well with my streamer.

Nevertheless, there should be a solution for the dark field display.

I wish you a nice Sunday too. It’s even sunny here for once.

Best regards and many thanks for the good communication.

@Mcasd

Are you saying that even when the RD160 display brightness is set to the maximum level, the screen is still too dark to be visible?

If the brightness is already set to the maximum and the display remains difficult to see during daytime, unfortunately there is no other solution besides reducing the ambient light in the room (for example, using curtains).

To check the brightness setting, please try the following:
The RD160 has a DIMM button. Pressing it will adjust the brightness in sequence from maximum to minimum.

Hello Rose_love,

Have you watched the videos yet?

Unfortunately, it’s still dark here during the day…

@Mcasd

I have not received the email yet. Could you please resend the video to the following two email addresses:

When sending the video, please also include the link to the forum where this issue was discussed. This will help us understand the context of the problem.

At the moment, we do not know which issue the video relates to, and we are also unable to identify you without the forum reference. Including the forum link will allow us to review the situation more accurately.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Hello Rosehan,

I have resent my email from March 3 and expanded the distribution list accordingly.

Regardless of the videos included in the email, I will describe the problem again.

In daylight, I unfortunately cannot see anything on the two displays behind the glass front, which show the settings for filters or sampling settings. Of course, I don’t have this problem in the evening.

As you know, the dimming only affects the buttons on the left side of the device and the lighting of the volume control on the right side. The two middle displays are not dimmed.

Unfortunately, I can no longer answer the question about the forum. I haven’t posted anything there because it always turns into a kind of bashing, and that’s not my style.

However, if you want to know whether other fans are having the same problem, I’m happy to post about it on the forums I know.

Please let me know whether the email has arrived or whether I should post my problems in forums to reach and gather other owners of a 160. I would prefer a solution via this forum!

We can also talk on the phone or make a WhatsApp video call…

Best regards,

Andreas

Hello,

I sent the email on March 10 at 12:55 p.m. CET.

Perhaps your mail server has a block on emails that are too large?

I am now sending this email again with the attachments.

Below is one without attachments so that we can see if anything is coming through at all.

Please reply to one of the emails and confirm receipt.

Thank you very much and best regards,

Andreas
