Now, to get to the actual points. If someone says that they are using e.g. Elysians, this is meaningful. These are pretty accurate speakers that reproduce the music in a certain, known way. Saying that you’ve paid $10K for speakers says nothing other than that you’ve spent $10K. They could be very good, or they could have frequency response like /\/\/\/\/\/. It’s not very meaningful.
Yes, physics is progressing. There’s a lot of work to be done to unify weak and strong interactions.But we do know very well how Ohm’s or Coulomb’s laws work. We use them to get GPS satellites to work and get extremely precise results. If the folks making magic fuses and wonder wires actually had something going, instead of selling a few to audiophiles, they would be receiving Nobel prizes and selling as many fuses as they can make to Three Letter Agencies. But they don’t, because there is nothing behind them.
Which brings us to Uncle Paul. He’s very good at what he does and what he is. And what he is is a salesman. He will, and does, say anything that sells more of PS Audio products (good looking, but highly mediocre at best, and downright broken, like some of the PowerPlants, at worst). When he did not have anything that could process DSD, he was very convincingly preaching how DSD is terrible and useless. When they finally managed to buy something that does DSD and integrated it into their products (a difficult task when you do not have any real engineers on staff) he started saying how gret it is, and even started a recording studio. Producing not very well made records.
The actual science, the kind where you conduct experiments, take measurements, and go with whatever the data supports, shows that almost no living person (certainly not anyone of the age when you can afford any audiophile equipment) will hear anything beyond Red Book. If you want some safety margin, 48/24 is better than necessary. There could be some good reasons for maybe doing production at a higher resolution, to avoid clipping and rounding errors, but not for distribution. And DSD… it was just a desperate attempt by Sony to come up with something proprietary that they could collect royalties on again. And almost anything you buy in DSD has been processed as good old PCM anyway, because mixing DSD is nigh impossible. With DSD<->PCM conversion being by definition imprecise, and nothing so far being recorded in DSD512, when you are listening to your DSD512 files, you are just paying for someone upsampling digital artifacts for you.

Now that we have reached a point without calling names we can talk. Yes for the DSD512 you’re right it’s to the extreme and it’s not necessary. But 256 it’s the point where the music gets at it’s best. In DSD256 and 128 recordings are made for new artists and the results are great. It’s not physics it’s not money it’s the way your ears receiving the sound that is produced by speakers. And that gives a certain feeling. The human body reacts to that even if the frequencies are inaudible. Studies showed that the 256 four times the SACD sample it’s the best sound and the difference to pcm and to lower DSD are audible differences. Small but audible. Your eyes also receiving all the information when you look something but every detail of that image goes to subconscious. Only the one you’re interested goes to conscious. I just want to say that the physics plays no role on sound. Only your ears and your body. The basic laws are existing as proven point for measurements and calculations. Thats why in sound when you hear a specific setup of audio gear you maybe going to be satisfied and i maybe not and the other way around. But the point of the beggining was that we pay money for something that sounds excellent but the software it’s full of bugs. We discussed all day long for something that is common known to majority of rose users and obvious problem and that is a proven fact.
I would be very interested in seeing references to these studies. Of all the studies with proper controls that I know of, they had actually shown that the vast majority of people can’t even hear a difference between a sufficiently high-rate MP3 and the original (even though there is an objective, measurable difference in that case) and that nobody can tell the same master in Red Book from High-Rez.
It would be… interesting, if anything, if frequencies that a) demonstrably can not be heard by humans and b) aren’t reproduced (or, at best, are greatly attenuated) by most existing equipment did have some effect. But other than people who are trying to sell you something, no scientist had managed to demonstrate that this is the case. And there is some math that does prove that higher rate DSD just adds noise.
And that’s the crux of the problem. The only thing that affects the sound is physics. Sound is a physical phenomenon, and only a physical phenomenon. Now, your perception of sound that is greatly affected by visual stimuli, biases, what you had for breakfast, and what not. That’s how people do, quite honestly, “hear” the effect of magic fuses or cable lifters in their system. Completely independent of whether that magic fuse is even installed or not (for obvious reasons, a fuse has no effect of the physical manifestation of sound).
If you find more enjoyment from listening to music while knowing that you have paid $50K for a streamer, and you are not taking the money from your kids’ college fund – that’s perfectly fine, that’s your enjoyment. That would be like saying that you should enjoy one conductor’s interpretation of another’s.
What you do not get to claim is that a $50K streamer (…an I2S connection, a DSD1024 file, a $10000 a meter cable, etc. etc.) produces something different that other people, or you in blind testing, would actually notice. Because this is physics. There are no separate laws of physics for HiFi.
Well, that’s the point I have been making here for 3 years. Rose makes nice equipment, good looking, with interesting features. But the software sucks. Would I recommend it without Roon? Probably not. But for my use case Rose works very nice, and I do prefer it over something like an EverSolo from the aesthetic point of view. But sound-wise, they are all the same.

The sound? Yes. Sound, once again, is a physical phenomenon. It is not affected by Uncle Paul wanting to sell you an I2S cable. Your perception of sound is another matter entirely, and could be affected by just about anything. It is also something not even worth arguing about because it is not based on any objective, repeatable criteria.
For anyone old enough to afford a Rose device, 15KHz on the top would be a very optimistic estimate. For reviewers at major HiFi magazines it’s somewhere under 10KHz.

I had a huge problem with emi/rfi, and my $10,000 srx cable helped eliminate it. What i realized is that when it comes to power supplies, vibration management, cable isolation, these things make an enormous difference in keeping the fidelity of the sound and signal. On cheaper units, the signal can be compromised and contain digital artifacts that could manifest. This was true in my case with my cheap streamer, cables, and power supply. Using a portable power supply like Ecoflow or Strom tank will stun even the most ardent skeptic. But no need to waste money on Strom tank, Ecoflow does the same thing for a fraction of the cost.
Synergistic research has a 30 day guarantee for all it’s power cords and conditioners, if you don’t hear a difference, just return it…

My friend as you can see this man doesn’t know anaything and because of that the only that is protecting him is the irony and his mouth and calling names always from the safety of distance. And i was polite enough. But the question is who was asked him anything at the beginning. These is another fact of low iq people. I made once this mistake and i lost my freedom for a while. Never again. Clearly his is payed to protect the instrests of hifi rose company. There is no other explanation.

There is no winning debating angry, miserable people who call others names and not willing to have an open mind to try new things. Learning is having an open mind and seeing others viewpoints that don’t align with your own. When people resort to name calling, any productive dialogue ends and they lost the debate. We just pray for those people to increase their life level and social consciousness to become a better, more evolved person. Boris obviously has a difficult, unhappy life. In some ways, we can pity him and empathize his situation produced such a bitter emotional condition.
