HQPlayer NAA feature for RS130

Hello, recently the Eversolo T8 streamer (RS130 ‘cheaper’ competitor) was enhanced with the HQPlayer NAA feature/support.

Considering that the Eversolo T8 also runs Android…can we finally expect Rose to jump in and offer the same feature for the RS130? It has now been proven that it’s doable.

Thanks

Great question, I would also like to know the answer to this question.

@Nuforce @Miracle1980

HQPlayer is a very versatile player, so it would be difficult to integrate it directly into ROSE devices. However, while it is not feasible to support all of the many features provided by HQPlayer, we are currently developing support within ROSE for several useful functions (such as upsampling).

Great to know you are developing those functions. Regarding HQP, I believe is it NAA support that we need, on the assumption that all HQP functions would be applied of the user’s separate PC.

@Nuforce

In order for ROSE to appear in the output list when sending HQ Player’s output to the network, the HQ Player NAA (Network Audio Adapator) must be installed on Rose. However, currently Rose products do not support HQ Player NAA.
The NAA installation and executable files provided by HQ Player are for general-purpose OS (Windows, Linux, MAC, etc.), so they are not compatible with ROSE.

Eversolo has developed themselve (with the help from Jussi) a NAA client for android. Also Matrix Audio has their own NAA client.
So it’s possible, if you’re willing and interested in it.

As @burki mentioned, NAA client should be the target for Rose RS130.

You might want to get in contact directly with Jussi from HQPlayer. I’m sure he can easily help you implementing the NAA client for Android.

@Miracle1980

I have forwarded your request to our software team.
They will review it once again.

We will wait for an answer with hope. The presence of the NAA protocol in almost every competitor’s product has already become a standard.
But the main thing, is better sound quality when using this protocol. I tested Matrix NT-1, Gustard S26, SoTM sMS 2000 - every time I switched to the NAA protocol I heard more information from the same composition, from the same system.

I would like to know if your plans to upsample include conversion to DSD.

@Maxi-mix

Regarding the NAA protocol, we will review and evaluate its feasibility.

@Nuforce
We are currently working on adding the DSD gapless feature. Our initial goal is to have it implemented by March, but we are experiencing some difficulties in the process. We ask for your understanding that the release may be delayed beyond the originally planned target date.

@ROSEHAN
if you really add DSD upsampling (hopefully, the RS130 has enough horse power for this), please rewrite your VU meter implementation.
The current one is not working for DSD since day one.

@burki

The topic of DSD upsampling is currently under internal review and research, and we are also evaluating the overall feasibility, including the hardware performance of the RS130.

As you correctly pointed out, DSD signal processing is structurally different from PCM, and we are aware that the currently implemented VU meter logic does not function properly during DSD playback.

If DSD upsampling is added in the future, we agree that the VU meter implementation will also need to be fully reviewed and improved so that it can correctly respond to DSD signals. Your feedback has already been shared with our software team for reference.
