After the latest update to Rose RS150B, I can no longer play dsd files. The Hifi Rose device setup in Roon does not contain any reference to dsd (dsf), because Rose RS150B likely does not identify itself to Roon as being able to play dsd (dsf) files.
Would be good to see the “Advanced” part of Roon’s device setup.
Also, your signal path shows that it is playing DSD.
Hi, Boris, I can post the “advanced” part of the setup later today, but I looked there already, and there is no option for, or mention of dsd playback.
Yes, the signal path does show dsd playback, as does the HiFi Rose 150B display, but there is no sound.
That’s odd. This is how setup shold look, at least for 250/520:
Did you try rebooting both the Rose and the Roon server? If anything it shouldn’t even be using DoP to send DSD to it at all.
Also… are you connecting over the network or direct USB?
Roon Server connects to HiFi Rose 150B over a network.
Yes, all of my attempts at playback have been tried on separate days after reboots of both.
But it’s playing (you haven’t shown the advanced part…) DSD.
Native will here not possible, until you’ll disable the volume control for the RS150B.
And for sure, also the RS150 is playing DSD native, when the DAC (here a Holo Audio Cyrus 2) is supported from the kernel.
Aah, I see in the Roon path, that you’re not using the USB out…
Probably best to ask Roon’s support, but looks like the case when you may want to reset RAAT server and have it re-identify the device…
I moved the folders for RoonServer, RAATServer and RoonGoer and reinstalled Roon, but the properties for HiFi Rose 150 are still missing any reference to dsd.
Do I need a completely clean reinstall?
Onto which output do you’ve set the RS150B?
Which external DAC are you using?
Is 192KHz the maximum sample rate you are seeing?
And, how exactly is the Rose connected to your Roon system?
Yes, 192kHz is the maximum.
HiFi Rose 150B is connect by network.
Burki, RS150B is the DAC.
I have no problem with playback of any other file types from Roon on RS150B.
In fact, despite several Roon data base deletions yesterday, playback on RS150B is 100% reliable.
I never had any problems with dsf file playback up to DSD 512 before the firmware upgrade.
Very odd. As I don’t have 150 specifically, I can’t verify it (could be that the latest firmware is reporting capabilities to Roon incorrectly), but it really shouldn’t be different from what 250 or 520 report, they all have identical capabilities… I would ping @ROSEHAN to see if anything had changed on Rose’s end and also check with Roon support. If you can pull Roon logs from your server, I guess it would be possible to see what Rose is reporting, too.
RS150 and RS250 (I’ve both) are working here identical.
Again: In your Roon signal path, digital out is shown and this is (if you’re using the internal DAC wrong → here must stay, analogue out) wrong and IMHO the cause for your problems.
Roon sees the DAC (your Hegel) → do you’ve there an additional digital connection?
I would toogle the output, reset your RS150B and deactivate/reactivate it Roon.
Also, what are your current output settings in the Rose device:
Hi, Boris & Burki, thank you very much for your help.
Burki, thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
Apparently, the default audio settings on HiFi Rose were reset during the firmware upgrade, and I having never adjusted or even looked at these settings, had no idea what disabled the DSD playback capability.
At first, I tried resetting the various input / output combinations on the HiFiRose150B itself, and resetting Roon Server on my laptop, but that only lead to complete loss of audio.
Eventually, I found a very elegant solution: while playing Roon on my laptop, I ran HiFi Rose windows application on my laptop, and kept changing the audio input /output settings until both PCM as well as DSD had audio playback on HiFiRose150B.
