What is the maximum internal storage I can add to a Rose RB150B? I know initially was 4TB the maximum capacity allowed but I don’t now if today 6TB, 8TB or even 10TB can be added internally?
The SSD recognized capacity of the Rose device is 4TB according to the specifications. However, among Rose users, there are some who say there is no problem with using an SSD as large as 4TB, while others say it is not possible.
@ROSEHAN,
any plan at Rose Hi-Fi to test the new Samsung 870 EVO 8TB variant being soon available on the market?
The SSD and HDD to be installed in the Rose device supports up to 4TB.
However, there are times when capacity beyond that is recognized.
However, the capacity that is always recognized without problems is 4TB.
SSDs with a capacity of 4TB or more may or may not be recognized.
Nothing new: that was already well known.
I think you meant to answer “No, we have no plan to test the new Samsung 870 EVO 8TB”.
More generally I think Rose failed, when designing their last products (from RS151 on), for not replacing the SATA SSD internal storage with the newer NVMe SSD in order to be more future proof (soon SATA SSDs will not be available on the market any longer).
For instance, the Eversolo DMP-A10 (a good alternative to the RS151) supports two 8TB M.2 NVMe SSDs each.
That’s a great suggestion.
From our perspective, we believe 4TB is sufficient, so we do not expect to support 8TB for the time being.
Even if 8TB SSDs were supported, scanning such a large capacity would take a significant amount of time.
Please note NVMe SSDs are ~10 times faster than SATA SSDs.
That’s absolutely right!
But it doesn’t necessarily have to be the SSD. The bottleneck could be the data processing, for example, due to the processor’s performance or the SSD’s interface.
See the speeds of SATA and PCIe, for example.
Can the Rose processor and RAM handle such a large amount of data???
They could, it’s the software that is the problem. It had improved by a lot (I remember well, when we started here, it would take Rose days to scan through a terabyte of music over a network) but still is far slower than even a cheap BLuesound with similar phone CPU can do to the same collection in minutes…
You see, Boris, that’s the difference between us. You speak plainly, and I always beat around the bush. Should I also complain about the already terribly programmed software? I read about it every day.
You constantly read:
This doesn’t work, and that crashes, whether it’s RoseTube, the gapless function, or the standard connection with streaming providers like Tidal and Spotify Connect, which can’t even be integrated without an extra device. For me, it’s in no way a high-end device. That’s why I don’t understand why the 150/151 doesn’t have an EQ, even though many owners here in the forum want one.

Well, for one it’s not even expensive enough to be “high-end”
Early models were reasonably competitive, when you account for the rather unique full-face screen. From there, I can only speculate, but it seems that the Rose owner, being an audiophile himself, does not have much interest in high-fidelity sound reproduction, just packing in whatever irrelevant gimmicks audiophiles happen to like today. So we get SFPs, external clocks, I2S etc. which are sort of de rigeur in mid-market brands with pretentions, but not PEQ, DRC, or even working streaming which one expects from either high-quality high-value or actually high-end products.
We are aware of that as well, but we kindly ask for your understanding that, due to hardware limitations, only SATA SSDs are supported.
In my opinion HW has been HiFi Rose’s strenght so far (likely the opposite for what concerns SW features).
For that reason I think new products should have been as much as possible using the latest and most recent technology during their design.
The RS151, avalaible for ordering since Feb/Mar 2025, was surclassed by the mentioned Eversolo DMP-A10 launched in the same period and having 2 slots for 8TB M.2 NVMe SSDs each and of course a supporting HW (CPU/RAM) around.
I suggest Rose to take it into account when designing the future RS152 and RS131.
Yes, I will share your suggestions with our software and development teams.
Thank you for your valuable feedback.
