Harman, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, today has announced the acquisition of Roon, a multi-device, multi-room audio technology platform. This move adds to Harman’s extensive range of audio products and services.
Roon is known in the audio community for its high-quality music management, discovery, and streaming platform, catering primarily to music enthusiasts. The platform is notable for its user-friendly interface, which simplifies browsing and discovering music. It is also compatible with a wide array of audio devices and operates on all popular operating systems. Roon also manufactures a line of hardware server appliances called Nucleus.
Following the acquisition, Roon will operate as a standalone business within Harman, maintaining its existing team. The company’s operations are set to continue as usual, with a focus on supporting and expanding its base of device partners and customers. This approach aligns with a joint mission to deliver personalized audio experiences across various products and platforms.
Harman’s acquisition is part of its broader ‘work with all’ strategy, which includes expanding Roon’s open device ecosystem. Roon has already established collaborations with over 160 audio brands and supports audio on more than 1000 high-performance devices. The acquisition is expected to enhance Roon’s commitment to its community and further develop its UI/UX design capabilities.
