HiFi Rose released a new firmware update for the RD160 on 5 December. I highly recommend it. I’ll write more about it later, but first I’d like to hear from you whether your experiences with the standard short sharp filter match mine…
Where do you find it? Is the screensaver issue resolved? Thanks!
Sorry for the late reply.

Having updated from v1.24 to v1.46 I too am pleased. Have always found the 160 provides a detailed and 3-D presentation so nothing new here. I too am using the short-sharp filter though haven’t much explored the others. SFP from 130. AES out. I would add the screensaver issue appears to be resolved (first observed v1.34) and the boot sequence is refined without various PCM/DSD modes intermittently flashing in the from/to fields. Thanks for sharing. Will continue to experiment and update if necessary.
… Did the update from v1.20 to v1.46 yesterday. And just played the SACD-Layer from a hybrid disc with my PS Audio SACD-Transport, connected via HDMI/I2S to the RD160. For the first time RD160 is excepting the I2S-Input in combination with my external Mutec-Masterclock: 75 Ohm locked. Great approach and great sound, especially with upsampling to 512 Mhz. Thank you very much indeed to the Rose Engineers, Frank
We are very pleased to see the positive feedback following the update to RD160 version 1.46.
If you notice any additional issues or have any useful feedback or information to share, please feel free to let us know at any time.
One malfunction this evening. Used the remote to power on 160 from standby and the power button flashed and flashed and flashed… but unit did not power on. Pressing the power button on the remote returned the 160 to standby (after a brief pause without flashing or any illumination). Next press of remote power button produced the desired result.

Thank you for sharing your issue. We will review it. If you continue to encounter issues, please leave a comment.
this is exactly what happened to me few days after the new firmware.
eversolo usb out → rd160 xlr → ra180
@himynameisturkish
I’ve tested several cases, but the issue hasn’t been reproduced, so I’m contacting you. Please provide a detailed description of the issue.
Thank you.
Since I did the last updateon my hifi rose RD 160 dac/ preamp, I have a problem with the volume ups and downs with the remote.
When I change the volume up and down with the remote the up and down don’t stop when I release the button. So the volume gets fast very loud or low. Lucky my speakers won’t get damaged . But a volume off 90 is very loud and very unpleasant. It seams a bug to me
I had posted that I would write something about my experiences with the short sharp filter – which I did not use before the update because, in combination with an RS130 and a Soulnote A2, it did not create any stage when playing music, or only a very faint one. Even though Rose wrote that nothing had been changed in the filters, for me at least, the difference is now like night and day. The standard short sharp filter now creates a soundstage that is comparable to that of the slow filter, for example. And this has nothing to do with “golden ears” or anything like that; even my wife can hear the difference clearly ;).
Perhaps – if the filters really weren’t tweaked – something was messed up on my device during the previous update. In any case, it sounds fine now.
Otherwise, I have no problems with the update. Everything works as it should.
hi rose_love
after the recent fw update rd160 kept stuck at booting with flashing power on light. this happened very rarely but never happened before the latest update. when i press the power button manually it shuts down and goes back to normal boot.
my setup is dmp a6 master gen2 (via usb), rd160 and ra180 and all three devices has always been connected with trigger cables.
thank you and happy new year!
@himynameisturkish
Thanks for checking.
Do you have the trigger cable connected to the DMP A6 out + RS160 in, and are you having trouble turning the power ON/OFF on the DMP A6?
