NEW ISSUEs: no playback for some streaming media in Rose 150b after update

Hello,

Have a new issues that seems to have occurred after the latest update.
#Running Rose OS 4.5.05

No matter if connected to Ethernet (valid IP address and and use of Rose app) or WiFI (valid IP address and use of Rose app), 3 streaming apps do not play:

#REPORT:
Qobuz - Album artwork and titles change but no counter for minutes/secs and no audio playback
RoseTube - “Could not play due to temporary error”; no Video/Audio playback
Podcasts - "Podcast has been selected’ notice but does not play podcast audio

Radio - no playback issues, working correctly
RoseRadio - no playback issues, working correctly
Rose FM - no playback issues, working correctly
Video - local SSD drive content plays correctly
Music - local SSD drive content plays correctly

Please advise as this just started in the last few days.

NOTE: Is this a ‘caching’ issue? Qobuz for example, does eventually play (approximately 2 minutes after title is loaded) but the behavior has definitely changed over the last year or so of ownership and I started seeing this after the last Rose update.

Here’s a detailed video of the issue on my end: Note I have done all other troubleshooting (shutdown/reboot 150B, reboot entire home infrastructure, routers, wifi WAPs, switches and modems) but still see issue on Rose 150b only, no other streaming apps/devices have issue)

I am running that version on my RS150B with no issues. Have you tried rebooting the Rose device. Press and hold the power button on the touchscreen or use the app to reboot the device.

You may also try the output settings on the rose. Maybe the device switched away from your intended output. Are you using the analog outputs - RCA or XLR. Make sure they are enabled in the output section of the settings of the Rose.

Strange - I use Qobuz as well - I see no issues like this. Try rebooting.

Is there a way to force clear cache ?
Like many android devices that over time gets out of space and apps start to misbehave.

Some apps will cache to a local folder and never remove the itens some space management utility will come in handy imo

Yes 5 sec reboot has been done a few times (and just again, now).

Here is the latest video showing Qobuz player on my iPad as well as on 150b (note: both are on same home WiFi network)

With the 150b, a selected tune may take up to 3 minutes to play on the Rose 150b or error out and not play at all, go to next track and same issue. Hit or miss, really.

On the iPad Pro, it takes ~5 seconds, each and every time.

I think that may be the issue as well but waiting for hi-fi Rose to confirm. Unless the unit is defective?

Seems like you have iPhone.
Would you check if the RS150B works well with iPhone’s hotspot tethering?
Turn on hotspot tethering and connect RS150B’s network to iPhone hotspot WI-FI.
And then, play Qobuz song.

Do not play Rosetube, rosetube may use a lot of data.

Personal Hotspot works on iPhone 8 (test connected to it on my iPhone 12)

…but where in 150b is this connected…in “tethering”? See screenshots…

if “yes”, you can see “Android”-related info there (I didn’t put there) and if I attempt to “enable” this, 150b errors with “You cannot use when using Ethernet” (yet, you can see it is not connected nor configured with any IP data)

If in WiFi section of 150b, my iPhone doesn’t show up in list despite refresh…

Once you activate Hotspot tethering in iPhone, your iPhone can be a WI-FI router.
So, you can connect RS150B’s WI-FI to your iPhone.
This what I asked above, connect to iPhone’s WI-FI and play Qobuz.

The tethering menu in RS150B, it’s for the users who want RS150B to be a router.
It can be activated when ethernet cable is connected to RS150B.

The iPhone 8 hotspot didn’t show up in the 150 B list of WAP’s until I set “maximum compatibility“ on the iPhone 8, and then, rebooted the 150 B. Is there something about the 150b that requires that setting? Otherwise, hotspot will not show up in list on 150b.

Now that the 150 B is connected to the iPhone 8 hotspot, all tracks play successfully and quickly.

What are the next steps in regards to playback issues with the Wi-Fi adapter included in the purchase of the 150 B or connected via one gigabit ethernet?

I’m not opposed to doing a complete factory reset as long as it doesn’t wipe the data on the internal SSD drive in the 150 B.

I’m not sure with detailed difference between iPhone’s maximum compatibility or not, but as I know it’s 2.4GHz and 5GHz difference, which both should work in RS150B… I will check if there are more details about the option.

As your RS150B works well with personal hotspot, seems like there’s problem between your router and RS150B. Resetting RS150B may be helpful, but first thing I wish to try is resetting your router, since RS150B works well with iPhone’s WI-FI. Would it be possible for you to reset the router?
Try turning the router off for five minutes and turn on again. If it still doesn’t work, try reset for the router.

  • Resetting RS150B won’t wipe the data in internal SSD of RS150B. It will just reset the software.

ok, powered off modem, router and switch for 5 minutes and powered back on one at a time. Connections restored for all devices in home (wired and wifi).

Full reboot of 150b and loaded up my profile in Qobuz. Still has playback issue with any selected tracks. However RoseTube plays completely fine over WiFi connected Rose 150b

really? You have similar issues too? I love this thing…trying to work with support to make it right and it is new, right? I think it’s really a great all-in-one product, actually. Seems the Qobuz issue is temporary. Don’t know what your pain-points would be with it.

He never even had one, just likes to bitch around about Rose because it turned out to be a bit too advanced for him.

I did a Factory Reset on 150b.

Re-connected to home WiFi network.

Logged in to HiFi Rose account

Logged into Qobuz Premium account

RoseTube videos play fast no matter which one I play.

Qobuz audio delays up to 3 minutes or almost never…spins and spins both with Qobuz playlists suggestions or my own.

Happens over hard-wired ethernet as well

Unless you have another suggestion (flashback to prior firmware?) may I get a warranty repair ticket opened up for this unit? This happened after your last software/firmware update within last month. Was working great over past year.

Purchase date : 2/18/2022

UPDATE: The dealer who I bought this unit from is coming over with another 150b and we will swap out our units to test if my home network is issue or my original 150b is somehow at fault.

Dealer came over and we saw the same issue on second 150b (same firmware)

Updated firmware on (2) WAPs connected to Spectrum router
Closest (5’) WAP to 150b set for 5GHz
Furthest (20’) WAP from 150b set for 2.4 GHz
Power cycled Spectrum Modem and Router
Spectrum Router also has built-in AP for WiFi

SpeedTests for (2) Routers and iPhone8 HotSpot connection posted below + screenshots:

Spectrum WiFi AP → 538.9 Mbps download
WAPs (ceiling mounted) → 465.8 Mbps download
iPhone8 HotSpot → 3.66 Mbps download

Dealer 150b also has Tidal account and we were successful to play all Tidal and RoseTube content on my home network (WiFi and cabled ethernet)

ISSUE: Qobuz content will not play reliably on either WiFi or Ethernet on my home network.

At this point, dealer and I can only think there is an impact between Qobuz playback and the latest software changes on the 150b related to Spectrum equipment (modem and/or router)
