[Official] SW Ver 5.9 (Rose OS 5.9.09) Software Release

I just received a notice to upgrade my 151 to Rose v 5.9.0.8.

I havent been paying attention to whats been going on behind the scenes with software, however I could swear when I performed this upgrade the sound blew up.

I’m running through a roon nucleus.

I hopped on the forums and saw comments from people saying that a previous software upgrade had degraded the sound. I’ve been trying to figure out if my sound had gone flat or what was going on, but I never thought to check the forums.

So am I correct in my understanding that the new rose software upgrade has corrected a sound degradation issue and what I’m hearing is actually improved sound?

The most important thing is your feelings, if you think that the sound is better for you, then you just have to be happy.

I’m asking a question based on reports from people over the past few months about the updates.

Take what you read here with a grain of salt.
Some claim to have heard a difference, others do not hear the difference.

As Cougar said, if you like the sound, be happy and enjoy.

If you feel that the sound has clearly improved, that is great to hear. However, I would like to clarify once again that we did not make any changes related to sound quality in this update.

The most important thing is your personal listening experience. If you feel that the sound has improved, then please just enjoy it.

I noticed an issue with the VU meters lagging when running Optical in signal from my TV to the RS151. I am on the latest official firmware.

If I pause audio on the TV, the VU meters continue moving for about 2 seconds. When I start audio again, they are delayed a second or two. Not in sync when audio plays.

For now, these indicators are just a gimmick and nothing more. I’ve written about this several times already. Words fail me.

Dear HiFi Rose users

It appears that the behavior you described may be caused by the processing delay that occurs when the ROSE device receives a digital optical signal from the TV and converts it to an analog output.

For this reason, we recommend disabling the TV’s internal speakers and using only the Optical output when connecting the TV to your ROSE device.

Additionally, could you please check whether the same symptom occurs with the following setting?

ROSE Device → Settings → Audio Settings → PCM Delay Time → 3000 ms

Please let us know the result after testing. This information will help us investigate the issue further.

Thank you.

Thanks for replying. TV internal speakers are disabled. Using only optical output from TV to RS151.

Changing the PCM delay time to 3000 ms did not solve the issue. It made no change to the delay of the meters.

Are you sure the meter output is accurate but delayed? I always found that the meters on the RS130 had no correlation with the actual output. I assumed they were just for show and did not provide any useful information.

Accessory just useful to decorate, I never use it on the Rs130

I need six meters on my amp

It’s strange that the manufacturer is unable to notice this, that the indicators are just for decoration, so why clutter the system with them, I don’t understand it…

I tested the setup exactly the same way you did, connecting the LG TV’s Optical Out to the RS151’s Optical In.

As you can see in the video below, no delay was detected. Since it is possible that the TV itself is delaying the optical output, it might be necessary to check the TV settings as well. Please refer to the test video below.

Thanks. My setup is definitely not working like your video.

I am using an LG G3. It’s just sending 2 channel PCM out the optical output. I have checked the audio settings on the TV a number of times. It’s not doing any processing or enhancements of the signal from what I can tell. Not sure what is going on.

Please note that audio delays may occur when converting audio played from an external app on your TV to an optical output (for example, when outputting sound from an HDMI set-top box via an optical cable).

Therefore, we kindly ask you to test it using audio played directly on the TV instead, such as from a USB drive or built-in TV apps like YouTube

I tested by just playing audio directly on the TV to the RS151 and the delay was still there.

I did end up doing a full factory reset on the RS151 and that has seemed to resolve the issue. Curious if the issue comes back at some point.

If you run into any issues while using it, please leave a comment. We’ll also look into any potential edge cases and reply back once we identify the issue.
