[Official] Ver 5.11 (Rose OS 5.11.08) Software Release

@Rose_love @ROSEHAN @ROSELOA
Hello Hifi Rose team,
Since the last update—which generally works quite well (I don’t use the VU meters or various other gadgets)—I’ve been encountering a rather annoying issue: when I click on a playlist (whether shared or one of my own private ones), the previous tracks in the queue aren’t cleared out; instead, the new ones are simply added to the existing queue. This happens even though I have selected the “Clear queue and start from here” option in the audio menu.
This didn’t happen with the previous firmware version (RS130).
Could you please look into this and, of course, fix it in the next update?
Thanks in advance.

I think you will find that other users here can be quite helpful. I also think you will find that in [Official] Software Release threads the commentary tends to tilt negative.

I am more and more worried about the turn taken lately.

Promises are no longer even made and those made previously are not kept.

The updates remain very mediocre and follow each other like this.

I had to go back to a version 5.9.07 as well as 4 acquaintances on the Rs130 to have a stable version and a correct sound.

The future seems very dark and if a replacement arrives for the Rs130 I would pass my turn and yet I am satisfied and I was with my Rs150b but confidence has blunted

Been following this thread (hard to miss it really), and I for one have had no issues at all with my RS130. Have I been lucky?

This is what really bothers me. As far as I can tell, the RS130 has no FPGA based data processing. If it did, that could be a reason that new FW - if using previously unmapped gates - would cause a perceived change in sound. Otherwise, there is no DAC or filtering hardware like there is in the streamer/DAC models. Without a FPGA in the data processing path it’s hard to figure what changes in the FW for a streamer only, would cause a change in the sound. IME the perceived differences for streamer only devices typically come down to noise generation. So what is Rose doing that causes the sound from the streamer to vary? I suspect they don’t know.

It is the clock that seems modified and influences the sound

Hi Gilles,
If you recall one of our discussions from last year, I had already mentioned this possibility, and I still maintain that the issue stems from there.
I worked around this problem by using an external clock on the RS130 and the RD160. Even then, it depends on which RS130 output is used. The I2S connection is—let’s be honest—crap; as of now, with version 5.11.08, the best connection is USB (specifically USB, not SFP USB).
That aside, I have to say that the latest version of Rose One PC (1.0.50.3) is absolutely top-notch—kudos to Hifi Rose!

Yes, all this is possible, I suppose. Changes to the processing load could alter the inherent onboard power supply ripple that could alter the clock’s phase noise performance, in theory! :slightly_smiling_face: Even data caching modifications could alter generated EMI near the clock. Adding more features could change the thermal behavior inside the unit. Ironically, when using the USB out the internal clock in the RS130 is bypassed. Yes… now that I put more thought into it I guess there are means whereby the clock’s behavior could be impacted. But like you I use an external clock, so I wonder how much of this matters for us?

Interestingly, even when using an external clock (which may be better with regard to internal RS130 processing), the USB output still runs asynchronously. No clocking on that output.

Indeed, when using USB, the mode is asynchronous; however, you only need to run a test comparing the internal and external clocks to hear that the sound is quite different—and I certainly wouldn’t go back to internal mode. Of course, the external clock on the RD160 plays the dominant role, but for me (and my ears), the ideal setup is external mode on both the RS130 AND the RD160.

Its a few people flagging posts for the sake of flagging posts so that they are automatically blocked.

I just got back in town the other day… did the upgrades.
No change in sound or how it works. (But then again, I’m not using half the features … like VU meters.)

PatriceP - could you please share your thoughts and experiences with an external clock; which one do you use? I use a Denafrips Gaia 15th DDC 'tween my RS130 and Chord DAVE & MSCaler and that made a marked difference to me.

A friend of mine updated his RS 151 and, like many others, is experiencing issues; specifically, nothing works except internet radio—Tidal just keeps buffering, so there’s no listening to music.

Rose, when do you plan to fix the software with a new update—one that doesn’t introduce new bugs this time? Could you provide an update that allows users to roll back to the previous firmware version directly from the display if the new one causes problems, as is currently the case?
October is almost over, and you were supposed to fix the VU meters by the end of the month. Right now, on my RS 151—and on other devices, according to user reports—they function merely as a gimmick with no actual connection to the output dynamics.
So, the question is: what stage are you at in getting them to work correctly?
And one final question: why does the update affect sound quality, even though you aren’t updating the DAC installed in the RS 151? Yet, people are noticing a degradation in sound.

I use a Cybershaft OP19 clock with Tubulus clock cables—it’s a little marvel. The impact of the clock is subtle, but when you play music without it, something is missing… a bit of life, that sense of being closer to the musicians, more detail, more air between the instruments.
Mind you, it’s not a night-and-day difference, but I couldn’t do without it.
That said, this is just my personal impression, and I know I’m going to draw the wrath of the two specimens who pollute this discussion forum…
Do whatever you want with it.

I’ve checked the behavior of the rs130 and the buffering issue occurred only when i’m playing music from my smb connection on nas. From the same nas with DLNA connection there is no problem at all.
Fix this issue.

Thank you

@Cougar2025

Thank you for sharing your concerns and feedback.

We would like to address your questions regarding the recent software update and the issues you mentioned.

1. TIDAL Buffering Issue on RS151

The buffering issue you described may not necessarily be related to the recent software update. It could also be caused by your network environment or connection stability.

If the issue persists, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Log out of your TIDAL account and log back in.
  • Open the ROSE Store on your RS151, uninstall the TIDAL app, and then reinstall it.
  • Restart or reset your router and reconnect your RS151 to the network.

Please check whether the issue continues after completing these steps.

2. Firmware Downgrade Option

At this time, we do not have plans to introduce a feature that allows users to roll back firmware directly from the device.

However, if you would like to request a previous firmware version, please contact us at:

eunseong96@citech.kr

When sending your email, please include your HiFi ROSE device model and the firmware version you would like to downgrade to.

We will review your request and provide further assistance.

3. VU Meter Performance

We are aware of the concerns regarding the VU meters not accurately reflecting the dynamics of the audio output.

Our software development team is continuing to work on improving their accuracy and performance.

However, we are unable to provide a confirmed release date for these improvements at this time.

We appreciate your patience while we continue working on this issue.

4. Sound Quality Changes After Software Updates

We would like to clarify that our recent software updates have not included any intentional changes to the sound quality or audio characteristics of the RS151.

If you notice a difference in sound quality after an update, one possible explanation is that certain user-configured settings may have changed during the update process.

We recommend reviewing your audio output settings and other relevant configurations to ensure they remain the same as before the update.

We understand how important software stability, reliable performance, and sound quality are to our users.

Thank you again for your continued feedback and for helping us improve the HiFi ROSE experience.

@christoum1974

Thank you for your feedback and for providing additional details about the issues you are experiencing with your RS130.

We would like to address each of your concerns below.

1. Buffering Issues When Playing High-Resolution Audio via SMB

The buffering issues you are experiencing when playing DSD256, DSD512, or DXD files through an SMB connection may be related to your network environment or connection stability.

We recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Restart or reset your router, then reconnect your RS130 to the network.
  • If the issue persists, please try performing a factory reset on your RS130 and setting up the SMB connection again.

You can perform a factory reset by navigating to:

RS130 → Settings → System Settings → Factory Reset

Please note that a factory reset will erase your device settings, so we recommend checking your configurations before proceeding.

After completing these steps, please check whether the buffering issue still occurs.

2. Difference Between SMB and DLNA Connections

SMB and DLNA use different methods to access and stream music files over a network.

SMB playback can be more sensitive to network conditions and may require a more stable network environment, particularly when playing high-resolution audio files such as DSD256, DSD512, or DXD.

This could explain why you experience buffering when using SMB while playback through DLNA works normally.

We recommend checking your network stability and reconnecting your SMB shared folder to see whether the issue improves.

3. Issue With Loading the Next Track

Regarding the issue where your RS130 fails to load or play the next track, could you please provide a more detailed explanation of the behavior?

For example:

  • Does playback stop completely after the current track finishes?
  • Does the next track appear in the playback queue but fail to start?
  • Does the issue occur with all audio formats or only specific formats such as DSD or DXD?
  • Does this happen only when using SMB, or does it also occur with DLNA playback?

This information will help us better understand the issue and investigate it more accurately.

Thank you again for your cooperation and for helping us improve the HiFi ROSE experience.
