Return the Rose RS130?

Is it a joke?,

You buy a device that doesn’t work and you wonder if it’s specific to your device?

The vast majority, of which I am part, have no worries, the few concerns are identified but yours is completely out of service!!

You have to ask for an exchange, that’s all!!

Hi Gilles,

I do not have access to after-sales service statistics that would allow me to state whether the majority or the minority of RS130 owners have encountered problems (do you?); however, when I look at the overwhelming majority of discussions concerning the RS130, they pertain to issues of varying degrees of severity, and the same holds true for the participants in this very thread.e

But it’s 10 or 15 people out of how many thousands sold in the world!!!

With a device with so many defects I do not ask myself the question: request for exchange

Your device may have taken a big shock during transport, it’s perfectly understandable

I have 4 friends who have an RS130 and who have no worries, they don’t post here to say that everything is fine

Sent it back, it was checked by the reseller who stated that the unit was fine, so he didn’t agree to replace it by a new one (it was a demo unit). So, I am done with Rose.

Congratulations. Funny though, you would think a demo unit would work. Let me know what you end up with!

I have a couple of questions of people who are experiencing issues.
How have they configured the unit?

For example, even looking at the USB-A ports… one is for a DAC the other two seem to be for data and the BT/WiFi dongle (only one brand, two models are supported) Which port are you using to connect your external drive to?

You said you’re using ethernet. Its an SFP connection, not RJ45 so what are you connecting it to?

@Lector sorry you had issues.
Its now too late to see if it was the unit, or you.

What other issues are people having?
Note: I don’t have the RS130, but in looking at the back panel connections and being familiar w Rose RS520, I think there are some obvious issues that get overlooked.

I guess its now too late to figure this out… but its quite possible that it could be user error.

I mean @Lector said he was using a wired ethernet connection… but not sure if he was putting an RJ45 cable in to the SFP port or had an SFP cable to a router/switch that had an SFP port.

Then the other issue is the USB-A ports. Rose makes a distinction between the DAC port and the USB 3.0 ports. (Not sure what to make of the optical USB 3.0 port. )

Its things like that.

Hi,

No, this is absolutely not a connection error. I believe that individuals who purchase a streamer at this price point generally have extensive experience in high-fidelity audio and possess a thoroughly optimized setup.

To answer your questions: the DAC was connected in two different ways (not simultaneously) — via a high-end AES cable and via a USB cable (from the DAC output, of course). The network connection was wired, through my switch, and I used two different RJ45 cables. The internal hard drive was a Crucial, and the two external drives that were not recognized were Samsung T7 models.

Best regards

@Smegel
You said you’re using ethernet. Its an SFP connection, not RJ45 so what are you connecting it to?[/quote]

I believe that, not owning the RS130 yourself, it is difficult for you to make an informed diagnosis. The unit comes by default with an SFP Ethernet adapter. Should you wish to use a fiber connection, you will need to purchase a compatible adapter separately, as it is not included.

Best regards

@Lector
I don’t have expectations. I’ve met some fairly intelligent people, yet either they made brain dead mistakes, or didn’t know to set something.

You said you used an RJ45 ethernet cable? Or did you have a transceiver?
The diagram of the back panel says that the port is an SFP ethernet port.

Not sure how a RJ45 cable is going to work…

That said… How was the T7 drive formatted?

I realize that this is kind of too late for you… but it could help others…

You were able to see and format your crucial drive, right?

I haven’t used any AES connections… but on the DAC connection… did you go thru the setup screen and make any changes?

The dealer may not want to say that his device is faulty!!

Yours accumulates a huge number of anomalies. Weird!!

@Smegel,

  • I believe I have already answered the question regarding the RJ45: the RS130 comes by default with an adapter for RJ45. It is not possible to use fiber directly; for that, a separate, non-supplied adapter must be purchased.

– The hard drives were formatted in EXFAT. The internal drive was even formatted directly from the Rose.

Ah ok so then you can use the standard ethernet cables.
I didn’t know that and you’re right. Not owning the unit makes it hard to diagnose.

There are some quirks to the Rose products in that they can be configured beyond just plug and play. Unless you spend time testing everything… you may not know about things or why they don’t work.

The reason I’m here in this thread is that @Eleven has made some comments about the product and I was trying to understand where people had issues.

THx

I really don’t know but for him , the unit was perfectly good (So I guess that for him, it’s normal that the RS130 behaves like that).

But why wouldn’t this dealer test your RS130 at home in your presence, in order to put his finger on what might be wrong.

In my region, it is far from customary—indeed, virtually unheard of—for retailers to travel to a client’s home in order to assess a problem or provide advice, even in cases involving a 40-kilogram amplifier or large floor-standing loudspeakers. This is all the more true given that the retailer in question is located some 75 kilometers from where I live (I bought online).

Exchange it. You have a lemon. I’ve had my RS130 for about eight months now and have only experienced minor problems with the app on rare intermittent occasions. I do not use Roon. Earlier, I was using Qobuz through the Rose app and it worked fine. I switched to Tidal several months ago and that works well too. Does the Rose app measure up to the Innous Sense app or the BluOS app? No, but it works well enough. I have also owned an Eversolo DMP-A6, and I would put the Rose UI on about the same level as the Eversolo UI. I have been so impressed with the sound quality and the RoseTube feature that the rare occasional app crashes don’t bother me. Other than that, the streamer has been outstanding.

Nice!
Yes this is audio equipment and sound comes first.
(The features win over the warts.)
