I have on loan for a home demo the UK demo RS451, I like the streamer but I do find there is an annoying hum sound from the streamer either when on or on standby, has anyone who has a RS451 experienced this or is it just this example?
Hmmm.
Do you have it plugged straight into the wall or and sort of surge or line protection ?
Thats what it sounds like! I hae tried it via a surge suppressor, straight to 2 different ring mains in my house and also in a neighbours house all with the same result, an audible hum.
Yes, I’ve the same experience: The transformer is humming. The is not really loud and for me in 1-2 meter distance not hearable.
A test with DC blocker doesn’t solves this problem (surely also no phasing) and for me it looks like a mechanical problem.
The next days I’ll perhaps open the RS451 and look deeper into this issue.
@ROSEHAN @Rose_love what’s your comment for this problem?
All the other three Hifi Rose devices, I’m owning don’t have any transformer humming, only the RS451.
Yeah its weird.
Does opening it up void the warranty or anything?
Burki,
I don’t know when you purchased the unit, but if it is still in the return for refund or store credit period, I would consider it. From what I read here, warranty repairs are a nightmare.
I would really like to buy this and the RA280 which I also have on demo but the humming in standby is audible from 3m away, not good when you are not listening to music and reading.
Please check the following:
-
Does the noise occur as soon as you power on the RS451?
-
Does the noise happen when adjusting the volume, or only at certain moments?
-
After performing a factory reset, does the noise still occur when powering on the RS451?
RS451 → Settings → System settings → Factory reset
Please let me know exactly when the noise appears — if it happens only under certain conditions or if it happens all the time.
If possible, please record a short video of the issue and send it to the email address below:
eunseong96@citech.kr
Sorry @ROSEHAN, but it seems a general problem with the RS451 and your standard response dosn’t helps in any way.
Again the issue:
- nothing (without the power cable) connected to the RS451 → humming
- it’s independend from the state of the RS451 (standby, on,…)
- the humming results physical from the transformer
There isn’t a need to send a video to you!
Burki,
Put yourself in Rose’s shoes.
You say X is happening.
They want to confirm it. But how?
You are somewhere around the world in a different time zone.
So they can’t just set up a zoom call with you.
A video allows them to see if what you claim is true.
Its very possible that there’s a quality control issue in their supply chain.
Or in when the units are being tested before shipping from the factory.
No, since years (and it’s completely independently from the issue) you get from @ROSEHAN the same stupid answer for sending a video.
After that: No reaction from Hifi Rose…
Here they have to check the used power supplies used for the RS451. This problem has the OT and me and I’m sure that we are one of the first owners, but this seems to be a generell problem with the RS451.
In South Corea, they are using 220 V, but 60 Hz and so they’ve (it’ their part and not mine, because they exporting to Europe) also check in an environment, where 50 Hz is used.
And for what in the hell, helps here a video???
Ok…
First, a good source told me that Rose designs in Korea but the products are built in China.
I haven’t confirmed that… but its possible.
Second… the video should capture the problem. You can show it not connected to anything and record the sound of the humming.
So they see and hear the product, rather than take your word for it.
There’s only one power supply used where it can be switched to handle the local currents. This isn’t limited to Rose but to most consumer electronics.
So suppose you’re right and there’s an issue. By sending the video… it confirms the issue. The next step would be to send the unit back and get a replacement.
So the video is the simplest and next step in diagnosing and confirming the problem.
Afternoon Rosehan,
- Yes it does and stays humming when turned to standby.
- No, noise is at a constant level powered on or on standby.
- Yes, factory reset performed x 2, still the same result.
- Noise is constant, unchanging in level or tone and is always present.
- Sorry, I have returned the demo unit so I am unable to video it for you.
Hope this helps,
Many thanks, Ziggy
I’m surprised that Rose would allow their equipment to be built in China. Rather large risk that the Chinese might learn the secrets of Rose’s PIN code technology.
Sorry, not even funny.
The pin doesn’t make sense but was done to satisfy the EU nanny state.
8 digits? Its a birthday or some other date you’re not supposed to forget.
(Can you say social engineering?)
At the same time… what are you really doing? The pin is entered when the device is powering up. Once up the device is open and no pin needed to access anything. Not to mention that you have to have physical access to the machine in order to enter the pin or to access any of the PII.
Once the unit is up and running… any PII that could be accessed, it would probably already be visible.
Its a paper dragon so to speak.
I get why the EU mandates that any vendor that has PII data stored within the unit has to protect it… but this is kinda silly.
Nope. It was done because they have no clue what could or should be done.
Because Rose implemented the wrong thing wrongly. Chances are that anyone actually hacking into the device from the outside will vacuum up any and all PII in it in 0.5 seconds, which is what the directive is supposed to protect against. But for you to look at your filter settings, you have to enter an 8 digit PIN…
Are Hi Fi Rose products built in China? I chose Rose over other products specifically because they ( so I understood ) were made in South Korea and not China.
I thought so too. But was recently told about it… but haven’t tried to confirm.
Doesn’t really surprise me though. Look at some of the European brands that do it…
