Transformer hum in products with a linear power supply can be affected by factors such as AC power quality, DC offset, and the installation environment. Therefore, the perceived level of hum may vary depending on the conditions.

For the RS451, slight transformer hum is a characteristic of the linear power supply. If the hum cannot be heard from approximately 1 meter away, we consider the unit to be operating within normal specifications.

Dear all,

I bought RS451 and have used it around few months.

I found there will be an Electrical Hum sound (or like Power Pop / Thump sound) when I am using desktop USB DAC mode and XLR to active speaker. (I donā€™t know if it will happen in RS451 standalone)
[Headphones out does not have this issue]

When I change tracks

  1. and if the track sample rate changes

  2. if the preferred ASIO buffer size changes (this is not controllable as it seems to be optimized at certain time when music stopped and start, including computer system use)

The above 2 conditions will trigger the sound at the beginning

Hope this will be fixed.

As mentioned above, for the RS451, a slight transformer hum is a characteristic of its linear power supply. If the hum cannot be heard from approximately 1 meter (3 feet) away, we consider the unit to be operating within normal specifications.

If you would like to confirm whether your unit is operating within the normal range, please contact the authorized distributor in the country where you purchased your RS451 and request an inspection.

They will be able to check your unit and determine whether it is operating normally.

To those affected by the hum, please take a SPL measurement at a distance of 1M with the unit turned on and off (unplugged) and record the difference. The quieter the baseline condition the better. There are free apps on the iPhones for this. This along with Roseā€™s input would help others to gauge whether their equipment should be sent in for repair or testing.

I returned the device because I donā€™t want a DAC humming. My Audio Note Dac, even with Transormator, doesnā€™t hum at all.
I also have an Audio Note system with transformers, so nothing hums.
At my dealer, all customers have returned their RS451 devices because they hum when only the power cable is plugged in and hum more than 1 m. I cannot accept this statement and for this reason I ordered the RS250A and am completely satisfied.
