RS130 Reliability Escalation: Field Failures, Root Cause, and Customer Protection Policy Required

Thanks for the info!

I have the C2800 which I believe has the same DAC module built in. I use it for my 2-channel digital listening sessions and have no complaints about the sound quality. I am thinking about a new DAC but am in no rush.

In my time with the RS130 I have not suffered any hardware issues. Is that a matter of limited usage or luck, I have no idea. My problems with the unit were on the software side and with playback. The unit is beautiful and built like a tank, and that meant a lot to me when I purchased it. Frankly, however, the looks could not overcome some of the troubling aspects of playback, like chopping off the first bits of the songs with Qobuz Connect and the lack of gapless playback with Apple Music.

Carnelian is correct though, once I switched to using it as a Roon endpoint rather than interacting directly with the unit, whether by touchscreen or the handheld, those playback and software issues went away. So that is what I would recommend, use it with Roon until Rose gets the software sorted. That said, the C2800 is itself a Roon endpoint so I have to live with the question of whether the purchase was a good one. But in my defense, I did not begin using Roon until after I had purchased the 130 and experienced the problems that I mentioned above.

Good to know, I’m going to keep an eye on this forum for firmware updates to see if they address the known issues.

Jeffrey, if you want to move away from the NAD streamer, I would take a closer look at the RS151.

I’ve had my RS130 since about January 2024 and haven’t had any issues with it. A friend borrowed mine about a month after I got mine, liked mine and bought his own. He hasn’t had any issues either.
In two other forums I’ve noted the RS130s reliability mentioned positively, but don’t know anything about those users so take it for what it’s worth. I haven’t read of any issues outside of this forum.
I believe issues tend to be overstated and concentrated by relatively few users on forums like this (I assume a very small percentage of owners visit this forum, like maybe less than 5%??) and no offense to the OP but certainly overstated in this thread. That’s just my opinion.
But if you get one and it breaks don’t blame me

Exactly, here also in France on the forums no topic on Rs130 breakdowns.

I have 3 friends who have some Rs130 for more than 2 years and no breakdown. I’ve had mine for 10 months and everything is fine

84GCock,

I have been a consistent critic of the old software (along with almost everyone else on this forum). Please consider looking at an RS 130 and controlling it with the new roseconnectone software. It is streets ahead of the old and really, really good.

And I bought one 1 month ago. I A/B 'd it with an Aurender n200 at home it blew its socks off. Loving it. And so far, it’s working perfectly. Though I’m sure I’ve just jinxed it!

Welcome.

What DAC are you using if I may ask?

Thanks, will ck it out.

Chord TT2, connected to the 130 by a Wave Storm cable. The Chord goes into a Naim 552 connected by a Chord Sarum T cable (bought second hand for a steal) . I have an MScaler on order. I’ve recently been focusing on my digital source chain as I have been 95% turntable for years.
