I am glad this will be escalated to an engineering team.

This issue was first pointed out more than 2 years ago and - frankly - I had given up any hopes this would ever be fixed.

As it looks like one of your distributors is highlighting exactly the same problem, I trust you will finally give it some thought.

For what it’s worth, the large majority of Various Artists albums were listed by the Rose Connect App as authored by the last artist featured on the CD. Anyway, there’re plenty of examples here:

We could not reproduce the same issue on our side.

Currently, USB/SSD power activation in standby mode is set to OFF on your Rose device, which prevents the SSD from being detected. Please change this setting to ON as follows:
Rose device → Settings → System settings → USB/SSD power activation in standby mode → ON

After that, please initialize the DB again, rescan the DB, and then press the Remote Debug button once more.

We kindly ask you to send us a few sample folders that are not being scanned on your Rose device to the email address below:

Additionally, regarding what you mentioned about Various Artists, is this what you are referring to as shown in the picture below?

I’ve turned our RS151 back on and connected it to the internet. Upon going into the settings the USB/SSD Power Activation was already turned on. I have gone through the process of initialising and re-scanning the database., and re-enabled remote debugging.

I have sent you a WeTransfer link with 3 different albums attached, two of which are problematic and one that is working correctly to see if that gives any indication of what is causing the others to have issues. The file sizes are too big to send via an email.

With regards to your picture, it’s partly right and partly wrong. The album becomes listed under one artist but it will choose one from the list, so in your example the album might all be listed under Dave Brubeck, and will only show up under his artist profile, even though there are other artists associated with the album. I hope that makes sense!

Same here. My USB/SSD Power Activation is already turned on.

DB scans have been performed numerous times, Remote Debug buttons pressed many times before and yet the large majority of all compilation, collection and all albums that - in the Metadata - are clearly and correctly marked as “Various Artists”, are not read by the Rose Connect App as such, but are displayed as authored by the last artist featured on the CD.

This makes it an absolute nightmare to search in the Albums list.

Nothing has changed since reporting this over 2 years ago (please see posts above) and I now trust that - given that also @HomeMedia has reported a similar problem - your software development external vendor can look into this on-going issue.

I am replying on behalf of ROSEHAN, who is currently away. To help clarify the situation, let’s look at two hypothetical scenarios.

Case 1: Compilation Album Metadata

  • Artists: All different
  • Album Artists: All set to ‘ASD’

Case 2: Compilation Album Metadata

  • Artists: All different
  • Album Artists: (Blank - no metadata entered)

Rose devices first check the ‘Album Artist’ tag, and then check the ‘Artist’ tag.

  1. In Case 1, since the Album Artist is consistently set as ‘ASD’, the album will be grouped under ‘ASD’. (Will not check the metadata from ‘Artists’
  2. In Case 2, the device checks the Album Artist but finds no data. In this situation, it moves on to check the ‘Artists’ tag. If the artists are all different, the album ends up being grouped under one specific artist. This appears to be the issue you are referring to. (This occurs when viewing albums via Rose Connect Premium APP > Music > Album)

We have developed an update to ensure that these cases are correctly grouped under ‘Various Artists’. However, it hasn’t been released yet. I will inform you as soon as a rough schedule for the release is determined.

I would like to hear users’ opinions about another menu in Rose Connect Premium APP.
In Rose Connect Premium, the following menu path is available:
Rose Connect Premium > Music > Classification > Artists

In this menu, you can browse music by artist.

For compilation albums, as you mentioned, there are usually many different artists involved.
At the moment, the multiple artists included in compilation albums are displayed separately one by one in this menu.

For albums that contain multiple artists, we would like to ask for your opinion on whether it would be better to group them under “Various Artists” in this menu as well.

Hi and thank you - after a number of years waiting for this to be addressed - for finally beginning to look seriously at this

Please look at ANY CD-ripping software brands available on the market.

Any of these established software read the CD/album metadata correctly, meaning that in the ‘Artist’ classification, when it’s the case of a compilation, a movie soundtrack, a collection or any other album that features multiple artists, it’s written “Various Artists”.

All I have been asking for the last 2 and half years is that you replicate what other metadata classification software do.

So, yes, ABSOLUTELY, please do

It is that simple.

Nothing more complicated or complex than copying what others do…

The nightmare with the way the Rose Connect App has been working so far - all these years! -is that is IMPOSSIBLE to find a Various Artists album as any album of this sort is classified under one of the (many) artists on the album.

An absolute nightmare.

So, it’s not the case of what is better or worse in users’ opinion but it’s the case of replicating/copying/emulating what other software do and just replicate what it’s tried and tested across years of positive User Experience developed by other software engineers.

Dunno if @HomeMedia would like to add something to this - I am trying to keep this as simple and as less complicated as possible…

I can only echo @alessandro, I think he has it pretty much nailed. Keeping things simple is best and as long as we get a way to sort and find complication albums then we are golden. I’d suggest maybe looking to add a way for users to manually tag albums, even if it’s just a tick box to say ‘this is a compilation album’ just in case anything slips the net but overall, hopefully the update fixes the issues at hand!

Thank you and your team for working on this, and although it’s been frustrating for you as it has us, I’m glad we’ve hopefully got to a resolution!

After checking with our software team, we have been informed that the EA (Early Access) version is scheduled to be released in January.
As for the official release, a specific update schedule has not yet been finalized.

Additionally, this issue is scheduled to be fixed in the EA (Early Access) version.
You may use the EA version that will be released in January before the official version is distributed. Once the fix is applied and released in the official version, please switch back to using the official version at that time.
