RS151 & RSA780 ripping issues

CD ripping issues on RS151 and RSA780 using supplied cable. Issues occur on both Wi-Fi and Ethernet. RSA780 in normal mode. Version 5.9.08

  1. CD information on occasion with certain cds, takes minutes to find & load information and then once information populated and ripping and confirm selected, all information disappears and NO CD-ROM displayed. Then toggle normal/read or disconnect power to CD-ROM and process repeats. Why does CD-ROM appear to become disconnected despite waiting for information to be found and displayed? Frustratingly the information is found and populated but because the CD-ROM is no longer available the information is cleared and the process starts again from beginning once CD-ROM is available. It is therefore impossible to rip cd because there is never the opportunity to enter the information manually because when the cd is loaded the process is spinning looking for data and when the data is found the CD-ROM is unavailable!
  2. Separate issue with availability of cd artist information being available/found eg 2 REM cds REM ‘Out of Time’ (7599-26496-2) found no problem, REM Green (7599-25795-2) not found! There are numerous other example of mainstream popular artists not returning cd information.

@ROSEHAN please can you review and respond. I see I am not alone with these issues….

UPDATE appears to be a handshake issue with certain cds and ripping process not knowing when the information gathering has completed…cdrom times the process out by going offline. Data is in cache but can’t be used as process has to be restarted when cdrom available. Happens consistently with certain cds not all cds….

@DEFSKI66

Based on your description, it appears that with certain CDs, the CD-ROM is being reinitialized or becomes unavailable during the metadata retrieval process, causing the ripping process to fail. We have also noted your report that metadata cannot be found for some CDs.

At this point, however, we cannot conclude that this is caused by a handshake issue as suggested. We need to investigate the root cause further.

To help us analyze the issue more accurately, could you please send us the following information?

  • Photos of the front and back of the affected CD
  • Artist Name
  • Number of Tracks
  • Disc ID
  • A video showing the issue while it occurs

Please send the above information to the following email address:

eunseong@citech.kr

Once we receive the information, we will work with our development team to investigate the cause and determine whether improvements can be made.

Regarding the CDs whose metadata cannot be found, it is also possible that the metadata is not available or does not match the information in the metadata database currently being used. We will investigate this as well.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will do our best to resolve the issue.

@ROSEHAN Getting this message when I email the address you’ve provided….

These recipients of your message have been processed by the mail server:
eunseong@citech.kr; Failed; 5.5.0 (other or undefined protocol status)

Can we try an alternative method please. Also one of the videos is too large to send by email (44mb) due to the time the process takes…

As I stated. The data is retrieved successfully. But the fields aren’t populated until the CD-ROM times out/goes offline. Which means the process has to start all over again when the CD-ROM is back online! Very frustrating to say the least.

I have a stack of about 50 cds this is happening with.

AND a stack of about 40 CDs were ‘unknown’ is returned eg Linken Park Meterora 93624 84432

189 cds successfully ripped.

I must admit I’m struggling with how this has not been picked up before by your continual testing. The numbers of CDs as an overall percentage of a collection suggests to me that this not an edge case. The data is being found and retrieved it’s just not completing that step in the process so that the fields are populated and Ripping can be selected BEFORE the CD-ROM goes offline….

It’s not the CD-ROM going offline that is causing the process to fail, it’s the process not knowing that all the data has been returned….the CD-ROM eventually going offline appears to trigger the population of the returned data, but then the issue is that because it’s now offline the cd can’t be read to rip it!

I’m also not the only customer facing this issue….eg

With this update, an Extended Search feature has been added for CD ripping on ROSE devices.

The Extended Search uses a more advanced search method. It first searches using the MusicBrainz Disc ID and the FreeDB API, and if no match is found, it performs an additional fuzzy search.

Before starting the CD ripping process, please refer to the image below (marked in red) and select the album that matches your CD.

If the CD metadata still cannot be found after using the Extended Search, please send us the Disc ID of the CD.

We need the Disc ID displayed on your ROSE device in order to search for and identify the CD in our system.

@ROSEHAN @Rose_love please see attached photos of ‘unknown’ CDs. Thanks

@DEFSKI66
We have registered all the CDs you provided. Please check and confirm if they are working properly

This is the definition of insanity, using Rose to rip CDs. There should be a whole other part of this site for people who use Rose software to rip CDs and the metadata is not there. C’mon people, use your brains.

LINKIN PARK - METEORA is still coming up ‘unknown’

ALL the others successfully ripped!

Thank you for all your continued help and support.

@DEFSKI66
Is the “LINKIN PARK - METEORA” album still showing up as “unknown” across all menus, same as before? Could you please re-share the screenshot of the Rose issue screen along with the photos of the CD jacket?

@DEFSKI66
We have also registered that CD. Please check and confirm.
