I am using the RS130, the RSA720 hub and the Holoaudio Spring 3 KTE DAC
Received the RSA720 the 2 transceiver were red and blue. No idea if there is a difference. It doesn’t
have an arrow or TX Rx anywhere on the transmitters.
Installed the SFP modules. Then the wire between them. I then attached a USB cable from the USB 2.0 out on the Rose HUB to my DAC into the USB B.
I made sure the HUB was on SFP mode and plugged the HUB into the wall.
The RS130 doesnt see the DAC. No matter what I do the RS130 gives the DAC not present error and to Retry or skip. If I plug the USB cable directly into the RS130. The RS130 sees the DAC right away.
Tried to make this work for 2 hours. No luck…any ideas?
I had the same problem. I tried for few hours. Finally, one of the two USB2.0 ports worked, it is still working now. However, the second port still does not work.
Try both USB2.0 ports and you might be able to make it work. Many people have the same issue.
Ill give it a try. seems pretty weird tho hah
Did it make much difference in sound for you?
The 2 modules had a blue and a red clamp. Did it matter which one goes where?
Tried swapping USB 2.0 ports over and over nothing i think its broken
Hi I had exactly the same problem they say you should put on the 720 first then then the Dac
But I tried everything , got really fed up and sent the 720 back for a full refund.
I’ve got a kte may Dac
I ended up using a Is2 cable
Hello,
I first try now a hard reset of my RS130 (Hold the power button down for 5 seconds until the screen appears that lets me power down fully). After that I try all the devices again.
The USB storage stick connect with USB 2.0. Not with 3.0, what I think is ok with SFP. Result: I can not play the titles on the stick.
Then i try the RSA780. After 15 seconds it is found, but there is no chance to play a song (after 1 second it stops!). There is not change to skip or to eject a cd…
Then I try my DDC/DAC. After 30 seconds and some hints on the screen, that no dac is connected it will be found now. When i play a title or radio station from the Roon core it started on the RS130, the screen with the informations is shown but the transfer stops immediately…
This is very disappointing. The RSA720 is a commercial option for the RS130 with a very high price and do not work at all in my system!
Hi, I have RSA720 with me for 1 week, likely the use of RSA720 with USB DAC has strict rule to follow… first, when you are in SFP mode, you must use RSA720 USB 2.0 port to connect to your USB DAC. I haven’t try USB 3.0 port because my DAC does not support USB 3.0 anyway…
Second, there is chance that the RS130 does not recognize my USB DAC if you turn on your RS130 first and not turn on your USB DAC more or less the same time, e.g., you left RS130 power on (not wake up from its standby mode) without power on your USB DAC for a while like 15mins or above, your RS130 will not recognize your USB DAC anyway. It can be fixed it by either disconnect and reconnect your USB cable from USB 2.0 port of the RSA720 or reboot your USB DAC in order to trigger the connectivity between your USB DAC and the RSA720… In my case, reboot the USB DAC get high chance of successful connection.
Overall, once it get the RS130 recognize your USB DAC, then it works… Seem like it is a software issue of RS130 (or RSA720) and hope Hifi Rose can get it fix asap like the early version of RS130 firmware which has connectivity issue with USB DAC but got it fix after… @ROSEHAN
Im going to send it back. The level of difficulty for such a simple device is not worth the effort
It seems that RSA720 does not have a dedicated USB audio port like the RS130 has. Could that be the issue when connecting to a DAC?
Looking at the instructions. It shows the Rs130 being connected to the RSA720 via SFP modules and optical cable. What purpose would it serve if not to send sound out thru the HUB into the DAC via USB 2.0 B? It’s ridiculous really. Apparently some have gotten to work by pure luck. My RS130 never sees my DAC when connected thru the HUB
Well, i wondered the same. Rose advertises the product “to block vibration and electrical noise from external storage devices”. I was considering to get one but have no use for it if it does not work properly with a DAC.
I cannot recommend this item. It’s beautifully made. Just doesnt work the way I thought it would
However, once it is working, it is a great little device that it performs much better for sound quality than my third party USB hub with SFP.
Ive tried every configuration i can think of. I even used a new cable in case that one was damaged. I turned to components on in different orders. I swapped the SFP modules. Ive spent probably 7 hours of trying to get this to work. The RS130 throws up the DAC not connected message and to retry or not use.
No matter what I try it doesnt work. It shouldnt take this long to install the SFPs connect via optical cable power the hub…turn on the RS130 and DAC. Like 5 mins tops…not 7 hours. The fact that the customer service folks havent said anything is pretty telling. It’s a bandaid piece of gear that doesnt work
If it is meant to work with digital storage devices, e.g a NAS, then perhaps it simply is not meant for DACs. That could also explain why the DACs are not found by the RS130 connected through the HUB. Would be nice if someone from Rose could enlighten us.
I just read that RSA720 should support a DAC as well although Rose only mentions storage devices. So perhaps I consider getting one once people confirm that it really works. I have now connected my DAC via an AQ Diamond cable and the sound quality is very good already.
@paqua :Would you please try to reset RSA720? I didn’t reset my 720, I didn’t know how I made it work on one of the USB2.0. The second USB2.0 is still not working.
Mine is working well with my DAC. I guess for once I got lucky. I do have a SSD attached as well. I do have to turn my DAC on first then the Rose 130 for it to work. I can’t explain why it works but it does. I do feel your pain when it t doesn’t.
And if a problem was to be had I have had it. So lucky I am with the RSA720.
