Sfp-usb 3.0 – rs130/rd160

Yes, same problem here between my RS130 and RSA720, but as I did, you can use it on the internet input… So you can start the lenghty burn-in now and it will be ready when your RD160 arrives :ok_hand: !

@ZABOKS, @musiq
What was appealing when I first plugged the Amphenol in was the warm bass, it lacked a bit of presence in the high mids and especially the highs. During the burn phase, what really irritated me was that at times, the bass seemed to disappear (the lower mids that give the presence, the groove, the pleasure in fact), and the mids were sometimes shrill…
What changed after about ten days was the overall balance, the cable returned to its initial warmth, while rebalancing the mids and highs and above all, the incredible soundstage.

Concerning compatibility with the RSA720, I had specified it in my first posts …

I am having the same issue as Giubo. I bought the Cisco 1m cable and: "wait need more than one minute, but after hours… no connection at all.

I turned the RD off and on while on the SFP input setting and it had a few moments where I displayed data rate information but then did not recognize the connection. This is frustrating. Are there settings on either end that need to be made other than the Input setting? I am not running a Clock, if that is the issue.

Disregard the post above. The eBay seller I ordered this from and received today decided to make the brilliant move and send it in a soft pack and lo and behold. I guess the old saying is true, you can’t fix stupid. It kinks nice and easy like…

I think the RD160 or the RS130 or both devices have software bugs in the firmware related to the SFP connection.
The worst things is the deep silence from Rose.
No indication, no support, no instructions from them…
Rose, can you help us to solve this SFP disaster ?

I ordered two new cables this evening for the weekend and specified SHIP IN BOXES. Fingers crossed that is the issue. I have just about every other connection between the two setup and am playing around with those.

What do you mean, I got both last week and perfectly working via SFP ?

Have tried the Melco C1 ? Many good reviews and comments. I’m tempted to order one .

@Exotor
The Melco C1 is a no-brainer, it is certainly the best DAC cable on the market.
A member of this forum uses it and is more than satisfied.
Personally, I chose the Amphenol with its Screwclear cable and its specific SFP connectors, according to many comments on whatsbestforum and other websites, the Amphenol is very close to the Melco, … for 20x cheaper.
Maybe one day I will make the comparison, if the opportunity arises.
With the Melco you will not make a mistake.

To clarify, can some of you list the working configurations of the SFP fiber and modules needed for the link between the RD160 and the RS130 ?
Please notice, I mean fiber connection, no DAC copper link…
SFP modules = ?
Fiber = ?
Thanks for helping !

@Giubio
In order of preference:

  • Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL
  • Cisco SFP10G-LR SFP+
    For the 2 SFP+ modules mentioned, you can use a Corning OS2 (singlemode) or Commscope OS2 (singlemode) Fiber
    But I preferred the Amphenol DAC cable.

Thanks PatriceP !
Unfortunately I already test the FTLX1475D3BTL with the Corning OS singe mode fiber, but the connection is unstable and require 8 or 10 minutes to connect.
Moreover, after the power off, the two systems ask again for manual intervention making the link practically not usable.
There must be some bug in the SW…

I have not encountered any problems with the finisar. Maybe your fiber is defective or a module…

I had good results with the Cisco SFP-10G-AOC2M cable
You can find some original ones on Ebay for around a hundred euros.

I don’t think the Finisar modules are defective… it does exactly the same with a pair of H!Fiber AXS85-192-M3.
With the H!Fiber it takes 6 minutes for the connection, while with the Finisar 8 to 10 minutes.
Both types of modules lost the link after power off.

Until today, after tens and tens of lost hours the only stable connection I can get is by means of a very cheap DAC cable: the H!Fiber DAC SFP+ 10Gb/s, 1mTwinax SFP+ at the ridiculous cost of 17.58 Euro (less than 18 USD). With this H!Fiber DAC cable the connection is very stable and persist after power off.

The sound ? Fantastic, splendid, better than the direct USB or I2S link.

So I should say…with this 18USD DAC Copper Cable I am set ?

No at all: I wish the FIBER connection and until now I have not yet found the correct hardware.

Rose… are you alive ?

I have no issues with FTLX1475D3BTL. The connection between RS130 and RD160 has been trouble free. Don’t give up on FTLX1475D3BTL as it provides an excellent sound.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Can you send me the exact code of the Fiber Optic cable ?

Beppe

I recommend the following fibers:

  • Commscope FFWCLC42 TeraSpeed Duplex Singlemode
  • Corning Duplex Singlemode F040402G2Z20001M
    What color is your fiber (OS2 Singlemode are always yellow)

Yes, yellow.

Test with an Elfcam and a Gtek OS2 single mode… same result, connection unstable

Do you know if we can use a sfp+ with a rj45 interface between rs130 and rd160?
