@Exotor
I don’t know, I haven’t tried this combination.
We should already have 10gb SFP+, they exist, but few. I think Finisar has one.
Personally, I’m sticking with my Amphenol DAC cable, I don’t plan on changing it anytime soon. I’ll still try the Melco C1 DAC cable in a few days to see if it’s worth it.
@Giubio
I don’t know why you bother with your SFP+ modules, if a simple DAC cable works, go to mouser.com and order the Amphenol DAC cable that many members are using now, it’s the best choice you can make and the price is ridiculous
Ok if it works it will allow me to use a high end network cable. There is a lot more options in that space.
I’m using it already but with sfp I will have access to much better cables. All my system is using pure silver and I would like to have this cable is pure silver as well
you should take a look at the Melco C1 DAC cable, I think it has silver cables, well check
It s silver plated, completely different sound. Pure silver is very detailed like silver plated but with warmer sound, better air and soundstage and better transients. The difference is not small
Just to have the possibility to compare fiber vs copper link
Happy to say my replacement cable arrive and RD and RS are now talking to each other SFP-wise.
I can confirm I used same set up purchased on Amazon, and the sound is amazing !!
Purchased the Amphenol SF-SFPP2EPASS-001 (1m) here in Italy. It will arrive in few days.
Made some test with the Finisar SFP and I have “discovered” the following:
- At power off the setting is SFP as Dac RD-160
- At power on, the digital input set is blank, no input is sellected, or, sometimes, USB is erroneously selected.
- I select some music to reproduce via Qobuz or Tidal and the system works correctly without setting the input
- Check of the input setting and … voila … is SFP again, without manual intervention.
Then I realized that only the info is missing at power on, but the link it self is alive.
This enforces my opinion: this is a bug in the firmware and I hope Rose will solve it as soon as possible.
In few days I will be able to compare Amphenol DAC vs Finisar Fiber and finally set definitively the input type.
For now I can confirm that the sound with the Finisar fiber link is wonderful.
Some additional information on connectivity.
- I ordered one of these: Cisco SFP-10G-AOC1M and it came kinked and would not work.
- I was sent a replacement of the same cable and on visual inspection, it appears physically undamaged but it would also not connect the 130 and 160.
- I ordered one of these: Cisco SFP-10G-AOC3M and it is working perfectly. Connections are firm, crisp when the two devices are powered up. No interruptions.
I am not an IT guy, but could the optical cable length affect connectivity? As a scientist, I struggle with why, but others have noted a sonic difference between cable lengths.
I hope this helps some of you.
The length of the fiber is of no importance unlike copper DAC cables where the length can play depending on the impedance of the cable, I have also observed it between the Amphenol 1m and 2m DAC cable, the 2m is undoubtedly better.
There are many fake Cisco on the market and maybe you have had some of these. You can check it by using a Cisco app on your smartphone (cisco optics scann) and scan the barcode on the side of the SFP.
Regarding the length of the Amphenol DAC cable: the SF_SFPP2EPASS is a passive cable and inside the connectors there are two eproms operating in I2C hardware bus.
Theoretically, shorter is the cable, better should be the link.
I have then ordered the 1 m DAC cable
I take back what I said in my previous message.
Yesterday and today the connection with optical fiber and Finisar modules has become unstable again. When the RS130 is turned off, the system forgets the setting and needs about 6/8 minutes to restore the connection.
I have connected back again my H!Fiber cable DAC SFP+ 10Gb/s, 1m and the link is stable.
Sincerely, the comparison between the Finisar SFP+ optical fiber and the H!Fiber DAC It does not show any major differences
I fill the DAC link a little bit more warmer, but I can’t say it’s a huge difference.
In few days I will test also the Amphenol DAC cable and I will let you know my impressions.
Just for curiosity, which setting you have in the sampling (PCM to…) parameter of the RD160 ?
I suspect that this parameters has something to do with the stability of the SFP link…
Is the following cable the same as your CISCO SFP-10G-AOC2M DAC cable:
Is the following cable the cable you connected Router SFP to RS130 Ethernet SFP?

No this is not the right one, the cable must be orange.
You can find it on Ebay, there are German and Austrian dealers who sell originals.
@PatriceP
Thank you - is the Amphenol cable correct in the above post?
And what cable did you connect your Router to Sotm switch? ← I have an SFP port on my Router
