Something Rose needs to work on

Smegel,

Have an Affiliate program. Good point.

For a few, how to videos, see RS130 User Interface - #119 by joyofmvid

And that I think is essentially the thing so many of us are frustrated with. The RS130 hardware is superb (at least for those who haven’t had failures). Seeing a company like Eversolo (and even Wiim, for that matter) produce decent hardware for less money - but with a HMI that makes some of the Rose functionality look like it comes out of the Stone Age, is just depressing.

HiFi Rose RS 130/Eversolo T8 is $5,895/$1,380 or 4.27 times the price.
Exactly what I’ve been afraid of. I certainly don’t mind paying more, if I’m getting more…but

So here’s the thing…

Is the T8 close enough to the RS130 in terms of sound?
Or is the RS130’s UX close enough to the T8?

Once you get used to the UX… the RS520 isn’t bad but could be better.
I think the App could use improvement though. It depends on how you use the unit.

I totally agree that HiFi Rose needs to put a large effort in the User Interface. ← effort like they did when people were complaining about the slow scan & the inifite rescan.

I myself is trying to help them by designing a better UIF via the User Interface specific topics (I am doing this “for their consideration”. I’ve worked in software development for 40+ years and been exposed to & developed many UIFs):

ROSEHAN is aware of what I am doing. ROSEHAN has even helped by emailing me some screenshots.

I am trying to encourage HiFi Rose to do a major user interface upgrade for 2026 release. Once the UIF Upgrade is released and reasonably stable, people will be much happier with the HiFi Rose products.

Thereafter HiFi Rose can increase functionality beyond the competition.

Excellent effort on your part. For 25 years of my own career I was the systems engineering design lead for a system that required rapid and intuitive utilization by the human operator, even for somewhat complex, time sensitive operations. The human machine design had to be straightforward even for these complex use cases. Ironically one of our customer organizations was in South Korea (along with other international customers), so we had to make sure the interface logic made sense regardless of cultural differences. Perhaps because of this I’m a bit too critical of the Rose interface, but then I compare it to something like the Squeezebox (now Lyrion) Music Server, whose lineage goes back decades at this point. Even at the start it had playlist management that (IMO) makes RoseConnect look positively crude.

Boris,
The ignorance is all yours.

You’re clearly of the mindset that two capacitors of the same inductance value will sound the same.
Go play over on ASR.

Seems you’re still a hater.

Again Boris you should hang out at ASR amongst your kind.

FYI… yes a difference can be heard.

The quality of components matter.

If not, just go buy your WiiM or other chi-fi components and lead your smug life.

Smegel,

I haven’t heard the EverSolo T8. I’d like to do so. Have you heard it? Because I haven’t heard it I really don’t know if it’s as good as the reviewers say.

We’ll wait and see until someone who isn’t paid to do so actually says what it sounds like. Specification wise, it looks to be very good.

There’s a lot of components I haven’t heard.

I’m not judging the T8 which is why I’ve asked how it sounds / performs.

Honestly I think the casual listener will not really notice much of a difference.
But there will be some that can and do hear a difference.

But you’ll also have some who look at the specs on paper and say that one is better than the other just off of specs.

Huff reviewed it. While he is one of those online talking heads, he kind of made it seem like while the T8 was a tremendous sound (and feature) value for the dollar, it maybe wasn’t quite as good sonically as the RS130. He did however make slight acknowledgment to the Eversolo app being better than the Rose app. All in a very vague way, though. If he were to out and out say something truly negative about a product, his career as a talking head would soon be over.

Right, I saw the review and of course there are others. Yet they haven’t reviewed the HiFI Rose.

As far as I know Huff is the only one who’s reviewed both.

I watched his review. He makes the point that most of the difference in sound quality you will hear when comparing the 130 to the T8 (and any digital transport) will come from the DAC that it is connected to. The subtle, if any, sonic differences in the transports would likely not be noticed by me and my older ears. That said, I don’t have any regrets in my decision making process when purchasing the 130, it is only after I purchased it and lived with it that I regretted the purchase.

By the way, Huff spends a lot of time saying nothing IMO.

I agree with you about Huff.
He loves to pontificate as to many of the reviewers do.

I don’t regret my purchases.
Although I bought a set of Mon Acoustic Mini s that I love… yet after repainting and upgrading my older Vienna Acoustic Haydn s, they now rival the Mini s. The other bonus… The RS520 and mini s are in my office. My old system is in the living room so my wife doesn’t use the TV and sound bar to play music from spotify.
