The Chinese are gaining on HiFi Rose

Well since I bought my rs130 I have nothing but praise and great sound AND a perfect working streamer. I wish more owners that have nothing but praise would just speak up because in the other thread « hifirose will not last long » there is nothing but complaint and bitching about the product and that really deteriorates the community forum and the spirit of it AND IT ALWAYS SEEMS THE SAME TROUBLE MAKERS as if they are paid to contaminate the forums. We can’t even have a good time without someone complaining about something. If you got a problem take it to the customer support NOT THE FORUMS.

Also it seems that the same polluters of forums seems to be the same ones and all over this place. Can’t wait to see a moderator that would start shutting down permanently some of those polluters of forums.

I’ve seen Chinese trying to be like the new kid in town and one that comes to mind is COCKTAIL AUDIO. I’ve had their product and sold because I had nothing but trouble with it. Oh yeah they sent me a new board by mail and I had to get a technician to install it because it had no instructions. They are DEAD now!

I know for a fact that if you want help better ask in a polite manners to get the same gesture back!

GDP10345,

I love my RS130 and I also love my RS520 used in a vacation home. I’m a huge fanboy of HiFi Rose. I have said repeatedly that HiFi Rose products are beautifully built. The concept is superb. The software and its support is not great. It needs attention and isn’t getting it.
This is not a surprise to anyone.
You are right to complain about Chinese junk. However, not all of it is bad. Eversolo’s products have received high praise and they really pay attention to complaints and requests for upgrades. A soon as they add a video display chip that’s the end of the HiFi Rose advantage. I don’t want them to win the marketing race. I want HiFi Rose to up its software game to equal its superb hardware build quality.

I have to say that is not only an intelligent, smart and polite reply on your part my friend! I wish there more of that in the forums and the reason why there are little of it it’s because it has become a kindergarden, kids out of control and no teacher.

I had an Aurender A 100 which I have to sell and these 3 Denafrips gear, Iris, Pontus 2 and the Terra ddc. Much better Chinese gear than most chifi you see online.

The second picture is my current gear consisting of Wyetech Labs Jade 2.1 tube preamp and the monoblocks are Wyetech Labs Ruby XR300B with Hifirose rs130 and a Weiss 204 Dac. I suffer of »severe upgraitis » I am receiving this Thursday my new hifirose rsa720 digital usb box. Can’t wait to hear the difference. That’s why I think that companies like Hifirose is not part of the chifi rat race for another product.

You make a valid point about some of the behaviour on here recently, but I completely agree with @StandardModel on this. The Rose hardware and overall concept is excellent, as is the sound quality. The software unfortunately isn’t. On the plus side it’s pretty robust and doesn’t crash but on the negative side it’s very inflexible, and lacking in features and, even more importantly, long standing bugs are not addressed. Two examples:

  • Neither Rose nor Jplay offered the option to list artists by AlbumArtist rather than Artist, resulting in lists with hundreds of artists. I raised this with Rose last year and there’s been no reaction. I raised it with JPlay earlier this month, got a positive reaction and it was included in the next update a couple of weeks later.
  • The Rose iPad player doesn’t handle multi-disk sets correctly, playing the first track of each disk then the second etc. I raised this on this forum and was told it would be fixed as soon as possible. I then find it’s a long standing bug and it still hasn’t been addressed. It should never have got out of internal testing with a bug like this.
I almost get the impression that the software was developed without looking at how people actually use music players

Good morning Guys! Everyone makes a valid point in life and I respect that truthfully BUT when you buy gear it comes with it’s problems! Any gear has that! So I bought my gear for the sound and the screen which is the best for this price range and more BUT I find that most of the members that complain about something is never about the screen or the sound so that makes me understand that they complain about the options like the software that has all those options. Maybe Hifirose thinks that they have the best screen and sound and the rest will be dealt eventually because the sound is what matters! Yeah let’s start a ‘’ soundmatters’’ movement instead because that’s what sells… Sound!

I typed here several functions which did not work or did not exist.

  • Search with/without diacritics é à è does work for me now (latin language group?). Yet i do not know how perfect it does.
  • Ultra slow DB rescan is much improved
  • CD Albums with more than 1 disk/vinyl AB are labeled now by CD1, CD2 and grouped in 1 album
  • Several album pictures tagged (front, back, media label, artist, recording location…) are now working and are selectable in the Android app instead of only one picture

So it is not that bad even though i am still waiting for further improvements to handle FLAC files, Tags, Search and more DB fields…

Only in the Android remote unfortunately, not the iPad/iPhone version.

Been looking at the Weiss 204 DAC…everyone seems to rave about it…wondering, what are your thoughts?

I totally agree. It’s always the same few trolling this forum. I think it’s plainly rude and very offensive. It’s about time a moderator stepped in and closed that thread. Block the trolls if they don’t behave after a warning. This is not a game where you can spout anything you like.

I saw what Standardmodel was doing there. Nudge the Rose team.

Personally I don’t have a problem with the Rose software because I I’ve been struggling since the 90-ies to get proper sound from my PC. I’ve had so many trials with drivers, programs and auxillary hardware that when I got the Rose streamer it was a breath of fresh air. It does most of what my PC did only without any noise.

I am this forgiving because I understand what it’s like to get a Windows, Linux or Android system running like this. And people complaining about everything do not. I see them as entitled idiots. Gen Z airheads. They think everything is free and should work perfectly for them.

Yes, I do have some wishes. Album artist sorting. And multiple entries per tag (recognise multiple entries seperated by a ; ). But I haven’t seen any android app do that. Not even Foobar for Android which is a shadow of the windows version powerhouse. Oh man, if I could do on the RS what Foobar did in windows!

Think about visualisations on your tv! That would be totally awesome.

The Weiss 204 is a DAC… whatever you plug with it will make some huge difference but in general the Weiss 204 of a nice sounding DAC, not clinical like denafrips but a little warmer like Aurender dacs. Now I have to connect the rsa720 and see how it sounds like now with the rest of my gear. I’m gonna also test the usb cable that comes in the box compared with my cardas usb cable.
Hours of fun lol!

That looks like a knockoff of one of those Naim of recent times. A big black heatsink :grimacing: had the misfortune to attempt set one of those up once and straight away the WiFi pairing wouldn’t work. Kind of critical then I saw the display; could tell from the outset it was a crock of shit. Rose looks class in comparison cut em some slack……

JOHNxxEIRE,

I have a holiday home in Ballycotton. Are you from Eire?

I do agree that there is a lot of Chinese sheit but there are also a lot of good products made there, Apple products for example not to mention lots of quality hifi gear. In this case Eversolo is selling like hotcakes and its parent Zidoo is well respected. The new dmp A10 model is a progression in a series of really good products. Eversolo has been releasing new software with enhancements every two weeks. The user forums are full of praise. Take a look:

HiFi Rose is about to release its first update of the year. Nevertheless, I love HiFi Rose and have an RS 130 in my home and an RS 520 in my holiday home. I love them both. I want everybody to buy a HiFi Rose product. I just wish the software would catch up to the hardware. Honestly, there are software bugs that have existed for years uncorrected. I’m just trying to give a good “funting” to HiFi Rose.

StandardModel

Yes I’m in Dublin. It’s true what you say and reverts back to a general consensus, which is the software did match up to the hardware we would be in business. I believe there’s the update on Thursday or thereabouts, now that I think of it personally I’d like an overhaul of a lot of stuff over time via gradual changes on a more consistent basis. And this solitary update of this year contrary to every two months or so projected doesn’t really give rise to any great haste in developments indeed it suggests a settling; and that’s a concern

JOHNxxEIRE,

Take the big three streaming apps vs. HiFi Rose
Bluesound, Wiim and Eversolo

Wiim has released 25 software updates in the last five months.
Bluesound Node has released 10 software updates in the last twelve months.
Eversolo has released 20 software updates in the last twelve months.
Hi Fi Rose (depending on how you count) one or two updates.

You can plainly see how their software programmers are performing.
If anyone doubts these numbers they can be easily verified by going on the Apple App store and looking at each app’s revision history.

I’ve used Wiim and bluesound software and don’t feel it was any better than one my RS130. My Innuos zenith 3 had better software but not so much that it made up for better SQ and a great screen on my 130.

Dacha,

I too bought the RS 130 and have the RS 520 in another location.
I did so because of the integration of the sound and video as well as the superb build quality and sound.

These other brands will spend another $30-$50 for a high quality 4k video chip and voila! an RS 130. The $3,680 list price for the Eversolo A10 is intended for high end retailers so with the normal dealer cost of 60% of retail it will have a street price of about $2,200-$2,500.

StandardModel

What Eversolo does has no relevance to Rose products. It’s a totally different business model and even a different design mindset. Use a Windows or Mac laptop to play music and video if you are worried about having the most up-to-date-software.

Serge,

Thank you for your comments. Two points. One, you are correct that Eversolo’s business model has been to sell cheap as chips products and they have sold a lot of them. So your comment about the business model was 100% correct.
Not so anymore. However, that model was just a stepping stone. From the $70 dollar puck to the $700 DMP A6, to the $1,200 A6 Master Edition to the $1,850 DMP A8 and now to the $3,680 A10 surely you have seen many more features and more high end functionality with each subsequent model. The A10 is knocking on HiFi Rose’s door and its market segment.

Secondly, Eversolo’s attention to the application software is impressive judging by the updates I’ve listed above. Certainly the upgrade progression frequency is way beyond that of HiFi Rose. So was it a different market? Sure. Is it now? What do you think the A12 model will be like? Better than HiFi Rose? You can see the rapid up market progression.
I love HiFi Rose but they should look in the rear view mirror. Something is gaining on them.

Good point and totally agreed

TomT,

I should heed Mark Twain’s advice: “One seldom learns more from the second kick of the mule.”
I’ve stated my concerns. It appears that the powers that be at HiFi Rose don’t agree with me.
I do not want to say bad things about HiFi Rose as I think it’s the best- at least up until now. Like a concerned parent when you see a child about to do something they’ll later regret, I wanted to warn them of what lies ahead.
