Time for a 2024 Wish list?

@manudream
May I ask you how many files your music library contents, where is it stored and how long your rescan times are after adding new music? And does rescan always works within comparable duration?

Sorry, but my answer won’t help you.
I currently have a 1TB SSD in the RS201E with 50 LP in DSF.
For the rest of my collection, I have a Proxmox server with Roon Rock, and I use the RS201E with Roon Ready.

But DB rescan on your ROSE device for internal SSD works reliable, no endless rescan?

iBluesound BluOS Platform Adds Pandora & Presto Music Streaming Services

It Would be nice to keep up with the competition.

My 2024 Wishlist:

  1. Playlist focus (not only Album focus)

1a) I currently have near 70 Playlists. That’s my prime playback preference. Also, I like playing other user’s public playlists ← that’s a great way to discover new music.

1b) Similar to disc players, save the last played position for the 5 most recently played playlists (this permits PLAY, on any of these 5 playlists, to prompt “Restart Playlist or Resume Playlist”. ← this will become a unique strength for HiFi Rose.

  1. Add more user selectable i2s pin configurations – my Anthem AVM 90 preamp supports i2s as HDMI

  2. Support i²s SFP for the following audio channel formats:

    • Mono
    • Stereo (2.0, 2.1)
    • 2D Surround Sound (up to 7.1) <-today, many music songs are 5.1
    • 3D audio (up to 7.1.6) <-today, many streaming services offer 3D music
  3. Plex w/ external player – external player is HiFi Rose’s player

4a). Plex is a great app for music (e.g., their “server”, “list” & “sort” functions are incredible)

4b) HiFi Rose’s greatest weakness is its User Interface & Scan/Recan sluggishness. Solve this weakness permanently by supporting “Plex Server & Plex with HiFi Rose’s player (i.e., HiFi Rose’s audio/video player is Plex’s external audio/video player”)

  1. Amazon Music

  2. Don’t play music videos on Front Panel ← always play music videos on HDMI.

6a) Plus add “Play Lyrics” function to see lyrics on TV.

6b) Lastly, 4K video should be possible with HDMI connection to preamp port).

6c) Music Video playback is unique to HiFi Rose; now, make it a strength!!

  1. File Extension: Add VOB for music videos

  2. Front Panel to be usable & easily readable from 12 feet

8a) I prefer my player controls on my tablet (not on the Front Panel).

8b) Permit Front Panel to be dedicated for currently playing information ← permit user to press a top right icon, to switch panel to “Default” view & “Currently Playing” view

8c) “Currently Playing” view to have no other selectable icons shown. Shown is only: album cover, textual info “Artist - Song Title” (including dynamic metadata & song’s remaining time/total time ← when applicable, show the word “Playlist Song” or “Album Track” followed by “nn of yy”

  1. User Manual is horrible ← currently, it describes the basic hardware but not the User Interface nor the User Functions.

9a) User Manual on paper is NOT needed ← instead permit user to download pdf file for an up-to-date manual.

In addition, required after a “factory reset” (or to upload onto a new HiFi Rose device) :

  1. Provide Export/Import Settings feature

  2. Provide Backup/Restore Dynamic Operational Info function such as backup streamer user ids & passwords, RS-130 created playlists, user Favorites, …

Database scan, database editing /management capabilities and database reset

Seperate preamp are best for doing room calibration/correction. Anthem AVM & MRX have Arc Genesis – it is incredible.

I don’t advise a HiFi Rose unit be an All-in-One ← All-In-One unit’s cannot create reference level for everything required in an Audio System or in a Video System.

Bluetooth connection of PC or Mac keyboard to be able to type in disc info/track titles instead of using screen.

Shortcuts and aliases on home screen. User friendly, convenient. Saves a lot of click to go to the inputs screen, and have to select “OPT IN”. Let me place a “TV” hyperlink on home screen instead. Or a radio station directly on homescreen “SKY” for instance. If volume setting then also could be added to the link settings it would be heaven !

We don’t need every Stremaing service.

Also Roon does not brint every service on its platform, this has nothing to do with progress, special quality.

Keep dreaming.
If you need it, that’s ok, but not everyone needs it, quality comes first.

I too desire sound quality - that’s my prime reason for my interest in the RS130. My NAS does not have albums. It has individual songs named “Artist - Song Title.flac”. All files are organized in folders named by genre, mood, occasion (e.g., Relaxing, Fun, Party, Dining, Rock, New Age,…). Songs on streaming services are all organized by playlist (this my wish #1) – hopefully, there’s an easy way to create a playlist for each of my NAS Folders and to list streaming service playlists with the Rose Playlists. As for #2, there’s only two interconnect ways to connect the RS130 to my Anthem AVM 90 prepro (either Digital Coaxial or i2s) – i2s is my preference especially in hope that in the future RS130 will support surround sound (SACD,…) and 3D sound (Amazon Music, Apple Music, Blurays like Hans Zimmer Live in Prague,…) ← I now found a cable manufacturer that can custom build a pin configuration compatible to my AVM 90; hence no longer need #2.

#4 was requested because of all the RS130 User Interface comments/bugs and slow scan/rescan comments.

#5 onward are wish items for my use cases.

I do agree with you, fix problems first (like the PLL 10 second issue, etc) and maintain (or if possible, improve) sound quality.

Joyofmvid,

I also have an Anthem AVM and an RS 130. Can you please let me know who the cable supplier was for your custom cable build and what they charged for the cable?

I haven’t yet purchased the HiFi Rose RS130? I’m still doing research.

For custom pin configuration i2s HDMI cable, see https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000255873784.html?srcSns=sns_Copy&spreadType=socialShare&bizType=ProductDetail&social_params=21093606133&aff_fcid=5d53334ec865429fbc79eb433f36bc9d-1717016112874-05850-_mLuh8Do&tt=MG&aff_fsk=_mLuh8Do&aff_platform=default&sk=_mLuh8Do&aff_trace_key=5d53334ec865429fbc79eb433f36bc9d-1717016112874-05850-_mLuh8Do&shareId=21093606133&businessType=ProductDetail&platform=AE&terminal_id=0609428eba7544908e676db9a22eda62&afSmartRedirect=y

I’m currently contacting Tubulus to find out if the do custom pin configurations.

I’m currently waiting for Anthem to notify me the Anthem AVM 90 pin configuration.

As soon as I know more, I’ll let you know.

BTW, I just found out that i2s carries only 2 channel sound (ie, stereo). Hence, it was recommended that I use the RS130 's HDMI output to connect to my AVM 90 (thus, permitting surround sound & 3D sound). My question is the sound quality difference between RS130’s i2s Out and HDMI Out.

For great Tubulus i2s cable review (custom pin configuration), see Tubulus Concentus I2S | The Ear

@StandardModel, Tubulus also does custom i2s pin configurations (at no extra charge) – see https://www.tubulus.net/

I also found a USB to i2s converter with four pin configurations – see GUSTARD U18 USB Interface

My next step is to get the pin configuration for the Anthem AVM 90 prepro.

Joyofmvid,

I had a Gustard U18 with a Gustard r2r r26 but swapped them for a LAiV which has multiple i2s configurations selectable by software.

@ModelloStandard,How is the LAiV after running in? Improve? Do you use balanced outputs?
