New Silver Remote for my RS 520 not seen

|I have a new remote for my RS 520. I followed the instructions to pair the remote:

The new remote is not seen by the RS 520.

  1. I have installed new batteries which a voltmeter measures at 1.5v each
  2. I have attached and substituted several IR receivers to make certain they were not causing a problem
  3. I have activated the remote to be seen in the Bluetooth subsection of the RS 520 setup
  4. I have simultaneously pressed the home and options button until the light on the remote is solid white
  5. No remote is seen by the RS 520. Did I just buy a faulty remote or is there more I can do?

I think you have to touch the text that a RC was added when it changed the color from white to gold… something like a confirmation…

Ben,

Are you referring to my step three above or something else? What I was referring to in step 3 is moving the slider to look for Bluetooth Devices.

StandardModel

Sorry my mistake.
I misread that no RC unit is seen at all.

Hi,
Was same error.
Managed to connect the remote control after the seventh attempt.
Kind regards,

But there was a glitch of spontaneous increase in volume after pressing once to maximum or minimum.

@StandardModel

Please check the remote control pairing video below.

Rosehan,

Thank you for the video. On my RS 520 the magnifying glass turns (gold/ yellow?) only for so long as my finger is touching it. As soon as I release my finger the color disappears. Am I to keep holding my finger on the magnifying glass until the RS 520 locates the remote?
The magnifying glass search doesn’t find the remote.
Is my remote or the RS520 defective?

If you watch the video, it doesn’t seem to be lacking in content.
Is there a Bluetooth dongle connected to your RS520? If it is not connected, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi cannot be used.

All you have to do is press the button, not hold it down.
And after watching the video, please explain in detail which part does not work.

Rosehan,

I’m confused. The manual for the RS 520 states that: "3-8-2. External IR Input Terminal and Pinout

• This product does not have an internal IR receiver. After inserting the IR receiver module provided as an accessory into the IR IN port located on the rear side, please place it in a location where remote control reception works well.

• The IR external receiver uses a 3.5 mm stereo mini phone plug. Refer to the following figure for the pinout.

VCC DATA GND"

To me this indicates that the type of USB dongle used in the RS 130 isn’t used in the 520 but instead a normal IR receiver with a 3.5mm plug is used IR Receiver .

This is what I’m using. I have tried several like this one. They don’t work. Is there something special about the 520 IR receiver that makes it unique so that I can’t simply buy one from Amazon? I am not using the factory supplied one.
I’ve watched the video several times. what doesn’t work is that once I select the magnifying glass no bluetooth devices are discovered even after the pairing activation of the remote by pressing the 'home" and “option” buttons simultaneously and the remote shows a solid white light.

StandardModel

Why would a Bluetooth device be discovered if you have plugged in an IR receiver?!

520 ships with a BT/WiFi dongle (pretty large, with s big antenna, it’s hard to miss) that needs to be plugged in for the BT remote to work… /smh

BorisM,

OK this is from the RS 520 manual:

Remote Controller
|Remote App|
|Accessory|
38kHz Infrared Ray(Within 10m of Operating Distance),

To me this means that the remote operates on IR 38Hz and therefor if I have an IR receiver plugged into the IR input jack on the RS 520 then it should work with the remote.
Correct?
It doesn’t.

Per the manual the remote should ALSO connect with Bluetooth.
"7. How to Pair with the Bluetooth Remote Control • 7-1. Press the Home ( )and Option ( )buttons on the remote control at

the same time for about 5 seconds.

• 7-2. When the white LED of the remote control turns on, activate the Bluetooth switch to ON in the Settings - Bluetooth menu on the main device and select Search Peripheral Devices ( )’.

“• 7-3. After selecting ROSE RCU from the Available Device List, if you select ROSE RCU from Registered Devices, the light will change to gold and the pairing is completed”

I thought that the remote was BOTH IR and Bluetooth and so it would also connect with Bluetooth.
It doesn’t.

StandardModel

Borin M,

I believe I have found the problem.

Silver remote connects with Bluetooth just fine. Of course you do need to have the BT dongle attached.

Never tried the IR functionality, but it has nothing to do with BT, and if you are trying to pair the remote after plugging in the IR receiver but without the dongle… it makes even less sense than buying a LAIV DAC, if that were possible

NEXT 531WBT Dongle

This was the solution for me. Once I obtained this tiny dongle from MoFi Distribution my (silver) remote paired immediately and without issue. Before this dongle pairing was an impossibility for me with the RS-520.

So I’ll chime in here for a minute…I only use the silver remote control with IR. In the past, I always had interference between WiFi and Bluetooth with my older devices.

Since my Macbook Pro M3Pro transmits to the router via WiFi and my Rose520 is connected to the router via a LAN cable and I edit my music on the SSD I installed in the Rose520 on the Macbook, I don’t want to have all that crap with interference. I don’t want to constantly remove the SSD and connect it to the computer in order to change the cover image or the tags in a song. I won’t even start talking about more radiation, otherwise Boris will brand me too. Hello Boris :v:t2:

 Information: (I’m sure you all know this…you’re educated and well-read)

To ensure that you don’t interfere with the Bluetooth connection, there are a few things you should keep in mind. If possible, clear the path between the two connected devices. This includes removing sources of interference such as small electronic devices. The metal casing of these devices or the signals they emit can disrupt the Bluetooth connection. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can also interfere with each other. For example, if you are listening to music with Bluetooth headphones and have your smartphone, which you use to control the music, connected via Wi-Fi at the same time, these signals can interfere with each other. In this case, it often helps to shorten the distance between the Bluetooth devices. Also make sure that the connected devices do not have too low a battery level. With smartphones and tablets, it can also happen that too many entries are stored in the list of paired devices. So if in doubt, you can delete some old entries.

Yes, but how can it be that you have to buy an extra dongle for such expensive devices? As I said, I don’t use the original dongle that was included at all. It is still in its original packaging in the cardboard box. I simply cannot imagine that Rose HiFi would have included something with a device like this that isn’t supposed to work!!!

Bonte :v:t2:

The distributor provided the small dongle at no cost to me. I actually use the IR as my primary form of communication with the remote, but it was important to me to have a fully functional product.

BorisM,

When you say “of course you do need to have the Bluetooth dongle attached” are you referring to the Wi-Fi large USB dongle or is there a separate (small usb dongle) for the Bluetooth? In other words are the dongles separate or combined into one dual dongle?

Thank you

StandardModel

@StandardModel

The antenna-type dongle provided when you purchase RS520 is a Wi-Fi / Bluetooth dongle.

The small usb dongle you mentioned is also a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth dongle
