[Official] SW Ver 5.9 (Rose OS 5.9.07) Software Release

I purchased the Rose RS151 in March of this year. At first the unit sounded amazing…just loved the unit.
After several months and numberus updates …well not so good.i use wifi as it is an extremely fast source but the dongle was defective . So I reached out for a replacement which took several months to get wow! The connection to Rose service is the worst… along with being condensending and rood Mr KHoon finally agreed to receive a new dongle in which came from MoFi in Chicago…Mo fi was very nice and understanding .
After getting the the system back up and running thing were ok not great but ok . Then update 5.9.07.1 came out!
Well not good the first time the unit updated to the unit was very unstable causing A hi frequency sound to my speakers!
Killing the tweeters both speakers over two thousand dollars to repair. Had to be custom made! Not happy
I’ve done 5 factory resets and every time the unit would stall and crash!.. Mr KHoon was absolutely no help.
So my conclusion is the unit and the update has been compromised! Sad
Personally I will never do business with a company that doesn’t stand behind the products!
In my opinion this company is only after the quick dollar!
Sad but true so beware!

Mofi is the US distributor and yes they are here in the Chicagoland area.

Hifi Rose USA has operations in NV.

Meaning?
1 your going to send me software to fix corrupted software?
2 Tell me I’m doing it all wrong…lol
3 Advice me to fork over 200 plus dollars to ship somewhere?
Best of intentions
Steve

Not sure if you meant me.
I was merely pointing out the locations in the US that handle Rose.

Yep know all that … thanks…

I recently bought an RS151, which sounded wonderful and was everything I expected from the product. The problems started when I made the mistake of updating the latest software. The sound changed, going from a spectacular product to sounding like crap you can buy at any supermarket for $600. The people at HiFi Rose responded to my email and assured me that the update didn’t affect the DAC’s performance, which I don’t believe. I had an RS250A for a while, which I ran countless software updates on and never had a single problem.

They don’t take responsibility for anything! They simply curse the customers who buy their products. Do you think anyone at HiFi Rose bothered to apologize or tell me they’ll fix things in a future update? You shouldn’t speak ill of anyone, especially if they deserve it… I don’t know if I can do that.

I haven’t heard anyone apologize for updates, even in more expensive devices, so they’ll fix the update and that’s it. Oddly enough, a friend of mine bought a Rose RS 151 a week ago and updated it. He doesn’t complain about the sound, only about slightly reduced dynamics. But he’s not very knowledgeable about Rose settings, so maybe he didn’t set something up correctly.

I still haven’t updated my Rose 151 to the latest update.

Don’t even think about updating it! Don’t touch anything, and enjoy it like this!

@ROSEHAN Is there any official response from HiFi Rose on the update breaking multiple RS130’s? I have not had a working RS130 for two weeks because of this and the official repairer says they won’t have the replacement parts for months. At this rate it will have been in repair for longer than I have had it in my possession.
Add to that the fact that the couriers the repairer booked dropped my unit and damaged it badly - The people that sold it to me Kronos AV say it wasn’t insured and that I have to pay for the damage FFS!!!
This is nightmare.

Hi, I made an account just to point out something I haven’t seen anymore mention about the 5.9+ update.
Unfortunately Hifi Rose is making a falsehood about the audio quality change, I have proof. The FIR Super Slow Roll Off, the RS151’s default filter, and the filter I preferred by a wide margin, was removed. Some have pointed out the default changed, this is correct, because they removed the original default. The SSRO filter is one coveted by audiophiles for its clarity, which many have pointed out the RS151 isn’t as clear sounding as it once was.
The fact that the app can “force” the filter back(it makes the RS151 crash among some other problems) says it’s an “oopsie”, one they should have expressed humility about, and already fixed.
To be honest, It seems they may have rolled out a RS150/250 update to the RS151, as the 151 seems to be exclusively having the problems. The streamer is now $5700 before taxes, so it’s even more troubling Rose has failed to realize they shot the RS151 in the leg with the removal of the filter. No amount of factory resets will fix this. Rose needs to include in its next update the ability to “roll back” so in the future these kinds of things can be fixed. As Rose clearly can’t be trusted to not break their products.
(I want to point out that all of the FIR filters have changed names too, so the FIR is in line with the 250 naming conventions and no longer the 151, which is why I think they messed up and overwrote the 151 FIR with the wrong devices FIR settings)

I’d bet a donut against a dollar that you wouldn’t be able to tell a single FIR filter apart in a blind test – most people can’t. If something sounds off, the cause is usually not the filter but the system itself. Very often it comes down to poorly matched components, while people prefer to blame specs or obscure technicalities. In the end, the weakest link is rarely the gear – it’s usually the listener’s assumptions.

I can’t tell you which filter is which, but I absolutely can tell a difference between them.

I used to be convinced as well – until I went through a proper professional blind test. Turned out I couldn’t tell a single filter apart. And the funniest part? Neither could a couple of very confident audiophiles with systems costing well over €100k.

Also I confirmed via the settings between the 151 and the app that the 151 lists 7 filters(all of which are renamed post 5.9 with a new one) while the app lists the original 6 filters. When changing a filter in one, it seems to select a filter that’s off from the other by 1.

Here I’m with you. If they had done the same thing with my 150B, I’d definitely feel a bit uncomfortable too – that’s the kind of confusion nobody really needs.

Well, it’s possible that it’s genre dependent. Listening to Zack Williams or Leanna Crawford, they are quite noticeable. Crawford is a very interesting case because her album is one that becomes utter trash if you have the output on the streamer beyond 2v on a Rose integrated. If you’re unaware, both the RA180 and RA280 are known to gain a lot of distortion if you use anything beyond 2v. This album specifically is wild to hear because it gains a noticeable “static” sound. The first track is sufficient for testing the output. I thought I blew a speaker when I first heard it.
These two artists are also easier to tell the FIR apart.
Also, not everyone has the exact same hearing. I also have APD, so I’m VERY sensitive to sounds.

Everyone wants to believe they have some kind of “special hearing” that sets them apart from others. In reality, you don’t hear a damn thing – and on top of that, you come across as a complete idiot. We’re talking about FIR filters here, and you start rambling about output voltage on a low-grade amp, claiming you can hear filter differences on some trash album. Unbelievable… yet another example of audiophilia combined with a extra low IQ.

Dude, I’m sorry to say I’m also suffering from the latest fucking shitty update on my RS151, I agree with absolutely everything you say.
