Rose may say they did not tamper with the sound. But why is another fir filter default now. I canged it to another one and the sound became better.
This setting can be found under in and out settings. Tap the wheel on the speaker setting and go for a slow roll off filter. You will be pleasantly surprised. At least I was.
After an update, certain settings can sometimes become corrupted, not just with Rose, but with other devices as well, and not just in audio. Rose engineers wrote that itās possible the filter has changed, so you should reset it to your preferred setting.
What device do you have and what filter setting do you have now?

Best regards, Rodak
Well that could be what those who felt that they heard a change⦠their current settings may have changed.
It could have been reset to the default.
I just did a factory level install, something I should have done earlier.
I bought my unit used from a dealer. One of his clients who bought it earlier this year returned it so he could buy more expensive components instead of the AIO. I got a great deal.
I think someone found some bugs⦠and Rose indicated that they will be fixed in the next release.
Personally, Iād rather have a better DAC chip, and GaN amp over a slightly better UI.
As @JMBARG already suggested, good practice (I know it from custom ROMs in Android) is to do FACTORY RESET before such massive firmware upgrades as this one. Conflicts between new code and the remnants of old settings if you do just an OTA may happen. So again FACTORY RESET before major update!
Yes, or do that in case you encounter issues.
In my case, I had none (not even soundwise), so didnāt have to reinstall settings
I put what you said into practice, and in my particular case, it only served to waste my time. I hope they release a new version of the software and firmware soon that fixes all these problems.
Make an email to get the 5.9.02 what I did
Or install Early Access (5.8) and at home the sound is impeccable
If it doesnāt work, itās because the RS has a problem and should be sent to after-sales service
Itās an RS520 that I have.
I think after the install you need to go thru and make sure all of your settings are set to what you want.
As noted some of the setting went back to default.
I just did a complete reboot to factory after the upgrade and it sound great.
There are a couple of quirks like not being able to set date to mm/dd/yyyy but thatās cause Iām an American and used to it.
The one feature I havenāt tried is the HDMI connection. (eARC or video out.) I guess I could test it w one of my external monitors⦠or just move the unit into the bedroom ā¦
R250A update showed on screen 8/30, I updated. Now, NO audio output at all, the unit is bricked. If I have to do a factory reset and lose things I have previously created, then this update was a disaster. I have toggled outputs. There is a line-level output of my stored music through the 3.5mm headphone jack, no volume control, but no other app will play, radio, or Tidal.
Not happy, it was working fine before the update, the update shows properly in system info as 5.9.07 crap!
Itās truly SHAMEFUL what they did with the latest software update and more, just after theyāve just released the RS151. What prospective buyer is going to spend a considerable sum of money, seeing all our complaints?
@JMBARG
Lets put this into perspective.
You are only one voice.
As am I and others.
Most potential customers are not going to look at a community website while doing research on a product. Nor should they.
Either youāre going to get fanbois or youāre going to get only disgruntled consumers.
The problem is that whatās missing is a gap of all the satisfied customers who do not have an issue w their product.
People claimed that their sound was off when they did the upgrade. Yet if they did a full reset after the upgrade⦠or downgraded and then re-did the upgrade⦠the problems went away. Did the issue really occur? Maybe⦠but its not a consistently reproducible problem so it canāt easily be fixed especially when there is an existing work around.
The other issue is that they are rolling out the upgrade as an all or nothing across the entire product line. There are advantages and disadvantages to this approach. (Full disclosure⦠I work in IT and have had to deal with this issue in the past.)
Warts and all, overall the Rose product line is pretty good.
(Regardless of Borisā opinion)
Unless you know how the sausage is made⦠you wouldnāt understand the issues and decisions on how to develop and release software.
Hey friend, I donāt really agree with what you said.
Thereās no excuse for putting out bad software. If youāre selling something around $5,000, which is a lot anywhere you go, you should know what youāre doing. Itās not the time to be experimenting or learning by trial and error. If you release new software, it means you figured out where the problems were and fixed them.
Donāt underestimate people. If someone is going to spend $5,000, today, with tools like ChatGPT and the entire web, they will research until they find what they are looking for.
You kinda sound like a partner at HiFi Rose, like youāre defending them, which is totally okay. These are big companies moving billions and doing business worldwide. I just canāt buy the excuses.
About Boris, yeah, heās not always the nicest with his words, and Iāve bumped heads with him before. But honestly, I respect him a lot because he clearly knows his stuff.
Its a question of what you mean by bad software.
Every time you release software, there will be bugs. Its a given. In every product. Your testing is incomplete, you try your best, but at the end of the day, you have to ship with what you got. Its the nature of the beast. Iāve seen software companies refuse to put in a killer feature out of fear that they donāt want to rock the boat w their flagship product. (Even though the feature was straightforward almost to the point of being trivial to implement. )
And no Boris doesnāt really know his stuff. Heās a bit like ChatGPT which will tell you what the consensus says even if the consensus is wrong.
Part of this last release⦠Iāll take the word of people who said the sound changed. (Other than the filter changing.) If it occurred it was not a repeatable bug. Meaning that you canāt easily recreate the circumstance so you canāt really identify what caused it. So you really canāt fix⦠and the only solution was to go to a factory reset.
I had an RS250A for a long time and got tired of updating it, never having a single problem. Recently, I upgraded to an RS151, did the update, and the audio went to shit. On both the RS250A and the RS151, the filter I like is the same as always. I did everything, reset to factory settings, stuck my fingers up my ass, prayed to every religion possible, and nothing changed. Bottom line: They destroyed the RS151ās audio, even though they claim they didnāt mess with that part of the product.
Ok, so who else has the same problem?
Could it be your unit and not the upgrade?
Hi JMBARG,
But didnāt you install gold fuses in your RS250A back then???
Or am I mistaken? It was a heated discussion here back then, too.
Yes, of course! I installed a purple fuse in my RS250A, but it has nothing to do with the current software updates. With a fuse, without a fuse, with an update, my beloved old RS250A never gave me a single
problem.
Before the update, my RS151 unit worked great and delivered the sound I paid for. I went back to the previous version and it was another complete disaster. I had to go back to the current shit, reset it to factory settings, and reconfigure the entire unit. And here I am, waiting for an update to fix all the crap they did.
Dude, weāve been doing this since August 14th!
Jim,
Sorry, but I asked a simple question⦠who else is having the same issues?
I mean many first complained about the upgrade, but then went to a complete system refresh, or went back to an earlier release and then did the upgrade again and the problem went away.
Sometimes it could be that thereās an issue with your specific RS151 unit.
As to the fuse⦠man, really?
