Perfect for me too!!!
Another expert…
Yeah nice to read.
While you drive the latest Bugattis i drive one of the not so latest Porsche
What is the virtual palm doing on your face?
Another audiophile with golden ears… I just hope you at least have enough hydrogen peroxide to wash them once in a while — though you probably don’t even know about that, just like you don’t know anything about Class D amplifiers.
Make a guess… Mr. “Digital Amplifier”
Ditto. I made 2 messages without a response.
This is my second Hifirose Rs150b and Rs130 device. I’m afraid it’s the last one
Just try resetting the device to factory settings. It often happens that an update installs incorrectly over the old version. Simply return the device to its factory settings and enjoy the sound again.
VIK.
That’s exactly what I did, and it all sounds like the same shit!
Vik.
Come on men!!!
That’s also what I did.
Boris.
What are your thoughts on the update issue? Do you have any solutions? Do you know if it’s possible to roll back to the previous version of the software?
I also confirm the loss of sound quality on my RS130 paired with the RD160. It’s completely flat, aggressive, even sharp, and inaudible…
I just connected my Roon server directly to the RD160, and it’s so much better!!!
This update killed my RS130; it’s the last straw. I’m going to get rid of the RS130 and buy a device from a brand that cares about its customers, its reputation, and, above all, has real expertise…
Enough is enough!
It should be possible to side-load the older firmware, if you can get it in a file, rather than OTA, but you’d need to get it from Rose first.
I have no opinion on whether it really does affect the sound of the RS-151. It does not for either 250 or 520 so I doubt it, but technically it is possibly that it mucks up with DAC configuration in some odd way.
Given the brand-new comment that it “affects” the 130-160 combo though, there’s 90+% chance that there is absolutely no difference, and <10% chance that some DSP is being applied to the signal before it is sent to the DAC.
Boris.
First of all, thanks for your reply. I understand what you’re saying, and it makes perfect sense. We’ll have to see if they provide it the previous firmware; it would be more logical and sensible to fix the bug and provide a patch, and that’s it. I can assure you that after the update, the audio coming out of the RS151 is a dry, flat, lifeless mess.
Thank you for your time!
You’re welcome. Somewhat surprisingly this is a situation where change in sound is at least technically possible. Bits are bits, but who knows what the new firmware might be doing with them.
That said, Settings/System Settings screen has options for updating both the the MCU and XMOS from a file. If you can get a file, throwing it on a thumb drive and pointing the updater to it should do the trick.
Boris.
I agree with you 100%. I was once heavily involved in 3D and video, and I remember buying graphics cards with the NVIDIA chip, and it was much better to download the driver directly from the NVIDIA website than to use the one that came with the card. It would be great if this concept were applied here and we could download the appropriate software from the DAC chip manufacturer.
I have no idea what versions the update installed, I would like to be able to do the MCU update, since it allows you to declare a path to search for it.
At the moment, I feel like I’ve been screwed over badly!
Well, I think one thing we all can agree upon here is that Rose’s software development practices do leave a lot to be desired.
Details in the software update line of the main Settings screen does list out separate version of the MCU and other components so at least it is possible to find those.
Given that the previous update did result in the output voltage setting being clobbered, I would probably go through all the output-related settings and see if everything looks the way you want it to be. Maybe even flip them back and forth to make sure they are applied.
I seem to recall that Rose did provide downloads of firmware a few times before, so maybe they would provide a rollback version, until they come up with a fix. Assuming of course that there is a problem. I am still not 100% convinced.
Something that happened to me after the update is that these settings were all misconfigured and I had to reset everything again, as seen in the photo.
