thanks for posting confirmation @michkhol
I am having most of the issues (log out of Tidal, app failure). Also getting this message when I start a new album on Tidal. I hit Restart and the whole message goes away without restarting (or discernibly doing anything). It comes back the next time I start a new album.
The search function in the RoseTube appears to be working now.
I find it interesting and frustrating that receiving an answer to this very simple and valid question is virtually impossible especially considering the scope of the problems that exist in this flawed firmware update. Rose really needs to be far more proactive and transparent in addressing this with the Rose community and it’s users. I am a HUGE Rose fan and love my device, however the manner in which this situation has been and continues to be handled is really not acceptable. I am only grateful I have approached all updates with caution and delay before applying them…especially in this case as I am still running the same previous versions of firmware and app software and have not had to endure the frustration so many others have. But that does not make Rose’s inaction acceptable. Come on @ROSEHAN @ROSELOA please provide updates on how this flawed firmware is being addressed and when it will be corrected. It is simply not OK to leave so many users hanging with such basic problems on our expensive and valued devices. Please.
I too see the Search issues resolved for my iOS devices, thank you.
i’m not using tidal or qobuz, so everything is fine…except the vu-meters.
The needles don’t move normally like a real vu-meter, they seems to freeze while moving.
Apparently the new Eversolo DMP-A8, not even on the market yet, has been noted to have accurately tracking meters. Funny how a company nobody had ever heard of 15 months ago has a stellar app and functioning hardware. Must be magic.
I made no suggestion other than a company also new to mid-tier audio, making similar products, seemingly can make an app that works.
Zidoo has been in business since 2014 though, making quite high-tech, software-heavy products. They have far more experience with firmware and app development than Rose does.
All the more reason to have looked at them as a reminder that one should have the SW development resources before attempting to jump into a high end market.
In the ideal world, sure. As it is, Rose, while deserving of quite a bit of criticism, isn’t even doing too bad, compared to some.
Boris M,
I would give HiFi Rose an A+ in hardware development.
As to software development and support, it’s not up to that of devices costing half as much.
StandardModel
I’ve lost count of how many times NAD/Bluesound (certainly having more dev eloper resources than Rose) managed to break Roon compatibility in already certified devices. Or how many complaints there are about software from Linn or Naim and other storied and expensive names.
The sad truth is that, not sure about Korea, but in the Western world no niche HiFi company (short of maybe something under Harman umbrella) would be a competitive employer for software developers.
BorisM,
You are right, of course. Other consumer streamer manufacturers have problems too. I am probably guilty of that old adage that the perfect is the enemy of the good in my comments.
I’ve subscribed to the other streaming companies’ user forums just to see how they compare. There are problems for sure but not nearly the volume or lack of responsive corrections as are on the Hifi Rose user forum. You are right about Linn and Naim, the old school British traditional streamers. However, they are going to be relics just like British automobiles. The issue for me is that the Western world has to compete with the Eastern World. The better Chinese developers know what quality control is. In the space of one year Eversolo has come from nowhere to near parity with HiFi Rose at half the price. They have had plenty of problems BUT they have addressed them instantly.
My issue is not with where they are now but it is the inability to see and deal with the road ahead, specifically not with the old school competition but what is here now from the East.
Rose has a superb hardware product but it will be eaten by the East unless it ups its game in software. Look at my issues concerning DLNA functionality. I’ve been asking for answers about how Rose’s DLNA works (or doesn’t) for weeks with no response. Simple freeware does a better job.
I’m a fan boy. I chose HiFi Rose. I think it’s beautiful. I want it to succeed. However, it’s also frustrating, akin to trying to make a wife out of a mistress.
I think we both can see what will happen to the brand if it doesn’t pick up the pace. I don’t want that to happen. I want Hi Fi Rose to prosper.
StandardModel
I agree in a sense, although I am not sure if people buying linns and naims would ever be buying eversolos, no matter how much objectively better the latter might be.
Rose’s software is below average in quality, but it is not a total outlier in the HiFi world.
For what it’s worth, Rose appears to be running Cling mediarenderer…
BorisM,
Cling is fine. It has the necessary ability to do what I am requesting ( and what every free DLNA out there can do).
With Cling, you can build a media renderer that can discover and connect to DLNA-compliant media servers, browse their media libraries, select songs, and play them on the Rose renderer device. Cling provides the necessary APIs and protocols to implement these features, making it a suitable choice for creating DLNA-compatible applications and devices.
So what happened?
For snob purposes alone you are correct that a lot of people wouldn’t buy the Chinese version even if they gave it away.
StandardModel
Yeah, there are people who believe that nothing under $10K could possibly sound good.
With a trial version of JRiver (although the old Windows Media Player works, too) I can see that Rose has a DLNA media server (if you have any files stored in the Rose) and a renderer. I was able to play to Rose from JRiver, and you can control playback from the front panel. There does not seem to be a way to browse external servers though…
Boris,
You know more about this than I do. I thought Rose only served as a renderer and not as a server. I can connect via UpNP between the RS 130 and the Audirvāna running on Windows as a server. What I can’t get is the ability for Rose to “see” and “run” the music files via DLNA in Audirvāna on Windows.
What am I doing wrong?
StandardModel
It appears to be a server, at least my 250 does appear as such to Windows Media Player, VLC, JRiver.
I did not see a way to browse an external DLNA server from it, but then Rose does not include a Roon remote either. You can play/pause/move to next track, which might be all there is.
It would be good to see an official confirmation though.
I’m running the beta version of the HiFi Rose Operating system and if there are improvements in this area, I can’t find them. Have you seen of any plans to enable the full abilities of DLNA on the HiFi Rose line?
