Sfp-usb 3.0 – rs130/rd160

SFP modules are active hardware devices and are driven by dedicated software for the target task.

If Rose offers this kit as “designed for…” I assume that the firmware has been adapted to perform the specific job of linking between RD160 and RS130, so that even if the SFP module has the same model type printed in it does not mean that it works in the same way.

This explains way Rose apply to the SFP modules their own logo tag

Customizing hardware devices is a common technique especially for important brands like Rose.

My opinion of course…

Upsampling is performed via software using algorithms that operate with dynamic interpolations and moving averages with a number of samples that varies according to the frequency range.

This technique can make the digital sound vaguely more analog if well programmed, but it is subject to inevitable approximations that can distort the original signal.

I consider upsampling an inappropriate processing in the field of high fidelity.

Upsampling for me is like an XLR or RCA cable: it can’t add anything to the original signal, but on the contrary, it can take away a lot if not of good quality… and the software has massive quantities of opportunities for errors.

I must admit that I am strongly influenced in this judgment by my activity as a software programmer of sound measurement equipments.

However, if there is an upsampling that works well in the Rose RD160, this is a good sign: it means that Rose has software developers who are at the highest level.

Due to psycho-acoustics, I am allergic to upsampling and I prefer the sampling OFF, disabled.

Thanks for your perspective!

It’s interesting to hear different approaches and experiences on this topic. For me, the *Short Sharp filter combined with upsampling delivers the best results so far. That’s probably down to my HiFi setup and personal taste. I’m still experimenting, though, and really enjoy reading about others’ experiences – that’s what makes this forum so valuable. If anyone’s curious about my setup, it’s in my profile. I’d love to hear what’s working for others!

I wanted to say that I added a Esoteric G-05 masterclock to my RD160-RS130-RA180 set up, and it’s even more organic and analog sounding. The sound is SO addicting and just incredible dynamics, PRAT, speed, richness, right amount of warmth, and totally non fatiguing.

Next up is Matrix or LHY with 10mhz switch that I can add to the clock and run SFP. All going through Synergistic Powercell 14. God is good !!!

A dealer in UK told me he heard that Rose were going to be releasing an external Clock for between rs30 and rs 160 in 2025
I’m going to hang on and enjoy the sound for time being and if it happens I’ll more than likely add it .

At the moment I am very satisfied with the LHY masterclock, but as soon as Rose offers its own masterclock I will most likely replace it

Their clock will have to be excellent, because in front of them there are some monsters such as Cybershaft or Mutec and their prices are still “reasonable” for the specs offered, even unbeatable.

Tom,

I added a genuine Cisco SFP + and cable (orange), can confirm sound is improved even further !

Hm…that’s interesting. I’ll give it a try later. Thanks again.

Can anyone recommend me a SFP module for Matrix SS1 pro to RS130?

Hello,
Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL with Corning OS2 premium fiber .
This is the best choice and there is consensus in the audiophile community for this combination or Commscope Teraspeed for fiber.

Hi PatriceP, I agree with you 100%.

I also compared it with the SFP come with my RSA720, I am not sure if they are the same as the SFP kit sold by Hifi Rose. I still found that you statement was true.

Hi Patrice,

had you any issue to stick in the Amphenol SFP Module in RS130 ?
Mine will not „click“ in. Have 2 of them but nothing to make here.

Between SoTM Switch and Trendnet Mediaconverter 5m Amphenol plays like in heaven.
So i proceed with the Cisco between SoTM Switch and RS130.

Thanks and greetings from nearbye Hamburg.

Good evening Christian,
I have not encountered any problem of this type, I just checked on the 2 SFP ports of the RS130 and the Amphenol clicks normally on the 2 ports.
FYI, I changed the connection order on the RS130 and I now use the Amphenol between the Sotm and RS130 and Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL between the RS130 and the RD160. This way I have a more detailed and warmer sound, more analog.
I also have the Finisar 1475 between the 2 Sotm
Viele Grüße aus Metz (Frankreich)

I have 2x Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL SFP+ modules and a 2M Corning duplex fiber cable to go between them. Will this work for connecting the RS130 to the RD160?

It looks like the post above mine seems to indicate “yes”. Should have read more carefully.

Good morning Patrice,
thanks a lot for your quick answer yesterday evening !
What i really like in my case is the Apmphenol with it’s warm, deep and controlled bass.
So in combo now with the Cisco SFP-10G-AOC1M i am happy so far.
Will check next days Cisco SFP-10G-AOC5M also between Trendnet Mediaconverter and SoTM Switch and compare this line due to my 5m Amphenol here.

This morning i had a look at Mouser.com after the FTLX1475D3BTL, they offer them from “Coherent”.
Are they orginal Finisar here ?

Hello Christian,
Yes it is the right one, on mouser.com you can’t go wrong.
Don’t forget to buy a quality optical fiber Corning or Commscope or Phoenix in OS2 (yellow cable).

Finally, the “official Kit” for SFP Modules + Fiber Link ordered some weeks ago in Rose US is arrived.

Unfortunately, as for all my attempts, also this kit does not work.

The only way to connect the RS130 and the RD160 for me is the DAC copper link from Amphenol.

At the moment the SFP Rose Kit is a pair uf hundreds of Euros perfectly wasted.

I hope I am doing something wrong.

probably because I tried it with cheap Elfcam SFP and a Elfcam fiber ordered from Amazon and it worked right away.
