Spotify Lossless

The Spotify update is rolled out here. Its available on my devices, but Rose needs a firmware update to activate it for spotify connect. And its the firmware update I’m worried about. If Rose dont do anything then it remains useless

Dear HiFi Rose Support Team,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing to report a query regarding the Spotify Lossless (HiFi) feature when using Spotify Connect with my HiFi Rose RS130 streamer.

I recently gained access to the Spotify Lossless feature on my account, and it works correctly when playing directly on my iOS device. However, when I initiate playback using Spotify Connect to my RS130 unit, the Lossless indicator on my iOS device disappears, although the audio continues to play normally through the RS130.

I would like to confirm if the RS130 is still receiving and playing the Lossless audio stream via Spotify Connect, despite the indicator disappearing from the controlling iOS device.

Could you please provide some insight or advice on this matter? I want to ensure I am utilizing the highest possible quality audio stream to my RS130.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Sincerely,
Göran

Spotify Connect can do lossless on my Samsung TV but not on RS130. Seriously Hifi Rose, it’s getting embarrassing.

I can perfectly connect to my rs130, but not yet at the lossless rate. For that Rose needs to implement the related Spotify api.

I didn’t hear back if that api is available to Rose and what implementing timeline they have in mind

Golden Sound released a YT video talking about the fact that Spotify’s ‘Lossless’ isn’t really lossless.
Its a good video and it breaks it down to the fact that the streams still go thru the OS layer and this is where it no longer becomes lossless. Its better… but still not lossless.

You should watch the video.Here:

Dear HiFi Rose users

Spotify has announced that lossless audio playback will be rolled out gradually depending on the region.
At this time, it is not supported on Rose devices.
If it becomes available in the future, we will make a separate announcement.

According to the latest information, Lossless will be gradually launched in more than 50 markets by October. Premium subscribers in countries such as Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the United States, and the United Kingdom have already started using it.

It appears that SDK updates are required for support, but as of now, this does not apply to HiFi Rose devices.

No Mr @ROSEHAN we cannot use it, although already available here, because your equipment dont support it. And the tone of your message suggest we have to wait probably for a long time. “It appears …” come on ! This sounds like a total disinterest in the case.

Just wondering if this has to do with compatibility between Android versions, as Rose’s platform is on Android 12 and Spotify may develop only for the latest version.

While that may be the case…
Golden Sound just did a YT video where he tested Spotify’s lossless and found that it wasn’t.
At issue is that the app still goes thru the OS so that you will have some loss. That said… for the most part its still better than before and better than the highest quality.

Also have to wonder which of their music is going to have lossless available.

Mr Rosehan I can confirm that I have lossless spotify now, but Rose resposne is very unenthusiastic and does not give confidence that they have any plans to support it soon,

@ROSEHAN Hello, HEOS supports Spotify Lossless and Wiim supports Spotify Lossless. What is holding HifiRose back? Will much appreciate if it is enabled as soon as possible. Thanks!

Rosehan said it requires a software development kit. Perhaps Spotify is to blame. I don’t know how the collaboration between companies works. I would prefer he said something like “once we get the SDK we will implement Spotify Lossless” or “Spotify Lossless will never work on the currently offered Rose devices.”

I prefer certainty. That said I don’t use Spotify.

Well…
Its working on a lot of devices… but I doubt that Arcam will update the OS for their Solo Uno since they are deprecating it as a product.

Now if I want Lossless on my RS520, I can take my line out from my iBasso DX180 and feed it into the coax in. (Which is kinda interesting. AFAIK, the LO is coax from the DX180 but I don’t think it bypasses the DAC which then feeds into the RS520’s dac. )

If your source has a digital out… (e.g USB) you can use that to get your lossless.

I believe the issue could be the Android version and not having an SDK ready for it. That would explain the delay.

As usual for Schmuckel, it believes wrong.

Spotify Lossless is working on my RS130. I’m running version 5.9.02

Hi GingerBeard! Tell me how you are doing? Are you connected via IOS och Android? I have IOS and Apple and I can not change the settings to loosless unfortunately.
All the best Goran

Had an update from Spotify today, but still no lossless on my rs520… so I really don’t understand what gingerbread is talking about…

GingerBeard is saying he has lossless on his RS130.

Its not out on the RS520 yet, and no announcement from ROSE.
Edit:
I have Spotify on my Mac. It has lossless.
When I connect to my two spotify connect amps (Solo Uno and RS520) while the Mac has lossless, the app shows that neither can do lossless only high quality.

I guess the only way to get lossless is to get a source that has lossless and connect it to the RS520 using any in cable,

Honestly can’t tell a difference between Very High and Lossless. Plus there are issues w Spotify lossless.

Hey, I am on an older version of the Rose software because I am nervous to update. I got Spotify Lossless enabled by Spotify 2 days ago. If I select the Rose RS130 from the device list on my iPhone in the Spotify app, music starts playing and my DAC (RD-160) displays the same sample rate that Spotify is displaying (example: 44.1khz). If it was being resampled, I believe it would say 48kz or 192khz as I’ve seen with other android-based devices.
