OS 5.9.0.2 / Rose RS520
I can’t update to 5.9.0.7
I understand that, but there’s no point in getting excited if everything is fine with you on 02.
Yes, you are absolutely right. Then I probably have to wait, or the device is defective because no update works at all, neither via WiFi nor via network cable.

In my opinion, it’s simply not available for you yet. It will definitely be available soon, don’t worry, you just have to wait. It doesn’t matter if you’re using Wi-Fi or cable, it’s not detected by your device yet.
I also emailed HiFi Rose’s website support, and according to them, they haven’t made any changes to the audio since the last update and are asking me to configure the filters. I feel like they’re making fun of me. In my particular case, as I mentioned earlier, I did the software update, and my RS151 now produces crappy audio.
I had an RS250A and always used the same filter, and currently, I have the same filter configured on the RS151 - I never stopped using this filter setting.
I highly doubt that they are making fun of you. I saw on another thread that they are offering to send out the previous system software upon request.
I went back to the previous version and it was a complete disaster! The RS151 wouldn’t recognize my external USB drive, and it didn’t give me the option to turn off the unit; the startup screen flickered, and I had a hard time shutting it down. This is actually the first time I’ve had so many problems. I used an RS250A for a long time; I’d run it every time an update came out, and I never had a problem. Now, with a device that’s supposedly superior to the RS151 and has a better DAC chip, the audio quality changed after the first software update, and it’s absolutely crap.
Here we go again, another person having problems after updating! HiFi Rose is going to have to release a new version of the software to fix all the issues we’re having, especially with the audio quality.

I don’t know if you’ve seen Gillesbonatt’s post about reverting to a previous firmware version, then reverting to the latest one, and his sound is the same as before the latest update. It might be worth repeating the process again to revert to a previous version and then installing the latest one. Maybe something will click and you’ll have better sound.
I don’t understand why some people have worse sound like you, while others don’t hear any sound degradation. So far, no one has called my distributor or the stores in my country where Rose devices are sold with complaints about sound degradation.
The filter you’re using, Rose believes, is the kind of filter you should apply at the very beginning of your listening session, as it ensures a balanced sound. And you can always change it to a different one later—it’s a matter of preference.
And you think if they called your distributor, he’d tell you? The guy runs a store to sell equipment, not to badmouth the products he sells.
You’d be surprised what you can learn from dealers and their staff.
Its not necessarily ‘bad mouthing’ products. Remember the sales rep wants to sell you more products and represents multiple brands.
I got a great deal on my RS520 because a good customer traded it back in while buying a bunch of separates. So the loyalty is to the customer not the brand.
I have a friend who’s a store manager at one of the stores that sells Rose. I’ve bought a lot from him and he’s sold a lot of Rose devices, including Rs 151 and Rs 130. No one has called him with such problems either. He sells a variety of products, not just Rose, so it’s not profitable for him to lie and mislead people.
And what the guy above wrote is important: loyalty is very important, because the more they sell, the more money everyone from the distributor to the stores will make.
And then there’s the fact that hiding something doesn’t help anyone, because it’s better for the distributor to email the manufacturer to ask them to do something, because then they’ll have fewer problems with dissatisfied Rose users in their country.
Again, go back to the previous version and then install the new one. Maybe it will work for you, like it did for the guy who wrote about it. It’s really hard to understand that two or three people are dissatisfied with the sound after the latest update.
Quick question have they changed the name of the filters and does anyone know what the fast roll off is now called
I received this table in an email from Rose

Thanks for the upgrade firmware. It fixed the bass and gain output too much problems on my RS151. Now I can use volume level around 50 on my Goldmund system with the same RS151 preout setting volume gain set at 2000mV. Overall becomes more balanced. I was used max volume 35 on my Goulmund maximum in previous firmware. The output gain from RS151 was too powerful and too much on bass before.
I would like to learn what has been adjusted on the latest firmware. Please share with me.
Unfortunately, the album artwork still missing on playlists after added directly from Folder. This is old problems since years ago on my previous RS150b. Please fix it in next version of firmware update.
Many thanks!
In your case, the latest update hasn’t degraded the sound, and in fact, it’s better, based on what you’ve written. Don’t you notice a flat and bright sound?
Are you having any problems with the PIN code?
Some find sound degradation or improvement.
I find it damaging that HIFIROSE touches the audio characteristics.
We have often chosen our devices after various tests and we do not want these characteristics to be modified a priori
Do what is necessary for existing concerns without trying to change a sound signature
IIRC Rose came here and stated that none of their upgrades dealt with changing any audio characteristics.
It would be nice if there were release notes that identified what changes were made.
It is well indicated at the top of this post.
Yup, so it is…
Long scroll back to the top…
Guess what. Nothing changed that would impact the sound.
And that was the point.
(And you walk thru the posts… you’ll find one where they said the same.)
