Tom, which SPF should I use to plug in RSA720 to RS130?
Tom, can you please tell me brand of sfp? you used
The RSA720 comes with a simplex SFP module pair and fiber to connect the RS130 and RSA720. Try that before changing to something elseâŚ
Yes I just tried that , both sfp from rs130 to rsa720, and then I have a synergistic research galileo usb going from rsa720 to weiss dac, but still no DAC found even with new version 42 firmware .
PLEASE HELP
Rose please help your loyal customer i been suffering 3 days!!
I am using the default sfp coming with the RS130. I tried other optical fibre cable. So far I found the stock one more pleasant.
I am using Weiss DAC501 with RSA720 and has experienced the same issue as yours for very long time. I havenât upgraded my RSA720 firmware, but I indeed get this issue almost resolved by just âWaitingâ. Everytime I first power on my RS130 (while my RSA720 is always on), and then I power on my DAC501, 100% of times the RS130 cannot recognize the DAC501 at first, but just wait for a minute or few, the RS130 then recognizes the DAC501. What I learnt here is just âwaitingâ, no need to rush to reboot your device and try the luck, I guess the RS130 with RSA720 is trying to keep searching what was connected until at one point they recognize each other and then get connected!
However, why I said it âalmostâ resolves the connection issue rather than it is fully resolved because that true that I still experience very few of times the RSA130 canât recognize my DAC501 no matter how long I wait for it⌠but I would say, 90% of times it could successfully connect my DAC501 by just wait a minute or few minutes⌠Lets see if this work for you as well!
Interesting. I will try that later tonight. Thank you
I think we need to ask Hifi Rose have some accountability with software engineer in charge why these problems continue to persist, and when will be new leadership to create world class, problem free software we expect .
the solution I have specified no longer work after upgrading to latest firmware⌠I am so so so tired to follow this up, so I simply using audio usb port from RS130 to connect my DAC directly, and start evaluating if I should switching brandâŚ
Please donât give up
Yes @Bicycle, donât give up @deckard
I donât have problems with the USB hub to my RS130.
However, I lately switched to use I2S between my Laiv Harmony Dac and RS130.
The sound quality, IMO, is as good as using USB via the RSA720, though a little different in presentation.
Surely youâll need a good I2S cable. The one I am using is a 0.75m 7NOCC cable about USD100. I am pretty happy about the sound from this connection.
At present, I mainly use I2S and switch back to USB for comparison only.
If your DAC supports I2S, worth a try, no matter if you have problem with the RSA720 or not.
Once you overcome the challenge, thereâs immense joy in using the hifi rose products.
Iâm interested in buying Laiv harmony dac. How is the performance compared to weiss 204?
I would say itâs better, compared to the memory I have with the 204. Of course, others may have different opinion.
The Harmony Dac is a pretty good device.
You can see my first impression with it here: LAiV Harmony Dac - #30 by TomT
I have RS130 and RSA 720. I can not use SFP connection anymore after the latest update. Now I have to use USB connection to RSA 720 and my Weiss DAC 204. I can tell that for sound quality, USB connection is not as good as SFP.
Therefore, I have ordered RD160, hopefully, it is my end game DAC for this system.
Tom T.
I agree with your assessment of the LAiV Harmony DAC. I use the I2S connection with my RS130. However, I also have Roon and run Baach through the USB input on the LAiV Harmony for comparison as well. Itâs interesting. Each one is different. I wouldnât say one is better than the other, they are just different.

Sorry to hear that. Yes, the RSA720 is indeed not good for all devices.
The RD160 should have avoid such issues.
I was keen on getting the RD160 as well, but sadly still no exact date of its release in my country.
Let us know how it sounds when you get it.
Yes, the I2S and the USB with RSA720 sound differently on the Harmony DAC. And I think itâs fair to say that I cannot simply tell which is better than the other.
Not sure about other Dac, but with the Harmony DAC, I can hear some music are better with I2S, and some are the other way around with USB and the RSA720.
In a way, the music from I2S is richer but more airy from the USB. So I would say they are both as good.
I currently choose I2S because it suits my taste more these days and I am a bit lazy to switch back and forth.
Having two similarly good connection choices is good and fun, isnât it?
I highly recommend Denafrips Terminator Plus Dac. It has a very warm, very musical, very organic and very realistic scene. I have some videos but you canât hear the scene from the videos. You can only feel it. If you wish, you can watch it on âYoutube: Tweakhaneâ channel. Denafrips is a device that can be the last Dac of a system.
